Fi and I were super excited about this past weekend. We planned a vacation in WV to see his family and relax. So this is how our “wonderful weekend” ended up playing out.
Friday morning (3am): FI calls me from work (at a restaurant). While cleaning he slipped and dunked his forarm and hand into the still hot deep dryer. He calls asking me to pick up burn gel and gauze to wrap his arm. I get out of bed go to walmart and get the first aid supplies. FI comes home and we bandage his arm, pack the car and head off to WV.
Friday (1pm) We get to the campground we are staying at. They had been hit by a bad storm the week before and only had power turned on the day before. There is no ice within 100 miles because everyone in the area has no power or water. We don’t get to use the beautiful campsite on a cliff with an incredible view. We do get a site, right in the middle of camp. At this point we are still hopeful this will be a good weekend.
Friday (3pm) AF arrives a whole week early because camping with cramps is just so much fun
Saturday (AKA the only decent day of the trip) We go to the family picnic, eat, kayak on the lake, and generally have a nice time. Finish the day with smores.
Sunday (the day from hell), paid $300 for both of us to go whitewater rafting. Get lost on the way to the rafting place almost miss our trip. Yell at each other and get super frustrated. Calm down and go on the river. Our boat has 4 boys and 2 girls. We start the trip with me and the other girl on the same side of the raft. About halfway down the guide asks me to switch sides of the boat so that when we paddle its a little more balanced. Its a calm section of water so I stand up and go to take a step across boat. I shift my weight one way, the boat goes the other and i DISLOCATED MY F***ING KNEE! So know i’m in the middle of the river screaming bloody murder and can see this crazy bump on my leg where the bone is sticking out. I try to brace myself against a cooler in the raft and thank god the bone slides back into place. Pain drops considerably. We get to a little beach pull out and they wrap my knee in an ace bandage and walk me up to the road. Get met by someone from the rafting place who drives us to our car. We decide not to go to the ER- remember we are in an area declared a disaster area by FEMA with limited resources. FI has to be back to work Monday so a super long wait is not an option. Get in the car and drive 5 1/2 hours back to NC. (and i drove half of it FI couldn’t stay awake.) So now i’m at home, uncomfertable, limping around the house and hoping my leg feels better soon.
Anyone else have vacation horror stories? Someone please convience me this could have been worse. Cuz I keep telling myself that but I’m having a hard time believing it.
