We got a devotional from the 90’s that smelled like Cigarette smoke and was yellow-y, and we got a tall vase, it was about as wide as a Pringles can, but it was about 3′ tall. What in the hell do you do with that? It was from my bridal shower and got broken before the wedding, woops.

@star dust Haha how in the heck did you get back to Florida with that thing? Even the reviews on the link say that you need an extra room to store it. Hilarious. I’m so worried we’re going to receive something we don’t have room for! I can totally see one of my FI’s friends getting us a turkey fryer or something.

@Red_pepper_gal That is so gross!

These are hilarious!

We got this horrible set of dishes from my DH’s great aunt. The box was warped and faded with water damage and looked like it had been in someone’s basement since in 80s. The dishes themselves were hideous with a “design” of purple and magenta roosters on them.

We ended up donating them to Goodwill, which was a pain in the butt because it was a HUGE box and SO HEAVY and hard to transport. I would have seriously preferred she just got us nothing lol.

She gave my SIL and her new husband tacky gold-toned cultery that also looked like it has been stored for years and years lol!

@Shosha1:  My in-laws gave us this massive print from Ducks Unlimited Canada of a lynx in a winter scene.  When Father-In-Law brought it over to us, he proudly complained “this is something you’ll have forever, instead of the cash we were originally going to give you, which you’ll just spend on something frivolous”.

AAAHHHH!!!  OMG, I can only imagine your faces when he said that. That’s like something out of a comedy.

I don’t think we got any weird gifts! I’m sad I can’t participate! We got a few things we don’t want, like a picture frame that’s not to our taste, but certainly not inappropriate.

Nothing really weird, though my step sister has been doing regifts: an incomplete set of knives and then a wine bottle holder.

We also got $100 in an unsigned card. 🙁 We’d love to know who it’s from so we can thank them!

Oh, we also got a … table quilt? A miniature, square quilt that we THINK you put at the center of a table under centerpieces or dishes. It’s handmade by the giver and a nice quilt, we just aren’t sure exactly what it’s for.

At least our devotional books are new or fairly new (no cigarette smell) and not aimed for a couple decades down the road!

omg i loved reading this thread.

the dogleash is priceless.

the “mary” towel?? who gave you that?  someone named mary?

the can of corn is hilarious.

the triple crockpot would be an awesome gift if you had the room for it.

as for the other odd gifts that you would never use, i think that’s just part of the fun of getting married.  put it in storage for your next garage sale.

we didn’t get anything too crazy.  a few things that weren’t our taste but thoughtful just the same.

I got a used cyrystal bowl. It has like some caked on food and watermarks from the dishwasher on it.

We got a few items from distant family members that were obviously regifted…they were opened and the packaging was worn, and when I looked them up online most had been discontinued at least 10 years ago! I think they sent the castoff frames, crystal bowls, and bud vases their children received at their weddings.

I do believe it’s the thought that counts, and the gifts were perfectly nice…though we did receive an overabundance of off-registry crystal bowls. I think we have 10!

LOL this thread is amazing! I hope to get at least one weird gift to add to the list. I’m stumped by some of these – the towel especially. Maybe the towel’s name is Mary, lol.

I got a set of ugly dishes with mexican sombreros all over them. To be fair, my brother thought he was giving me what I wanted. I had asked for Fiestaware. I don’t think that he knew that Fiestaware is not fiesta themed.
