My original dress budget was $1500 because I am a frugal person (I buy discount clothing/groceries and reuse tea bags kind of frugal) and I didn’t want to spend more money on something to wear for a few hours. BUT, I ended up loving a dress that cost $4k. Was it wrong to try on a dress more than I wanted to spend? Yes absolutely! But am I glad I did? Yes absolutely! My wedding dress is the most beautiful, elegant, exquisite dress I could ever imagine and the feeling I get when I have it on is priceless. It’s not the most practical purchase I’ll ever make in my life, but just for this one and only time, I wanted emotion to takeover.

After looking at your photos, the JA I think is gorgeous and very flattering! If you can honestly afford it, go for it!

starlc143 :  I think the JA dress is absolutely stunning!  Definitely something that I would have loved to try on.  However, if you are having to use your “savings” to afford this dress, then you can’t afford it.  Your savings account isn’t meant to pay for non-necessities like a wedding dress.  The Allure dress you already bought (and at an overly amazing price!) is beautiful too.  I see no reason to not keep it.  So my answer is no, it’s not worth it.

DrCrazyCat :  LOL you sound like me.  I am a total frugal person and cutting corners where possible even though I “CAN” afford more.  I make a very decent living but always knew that I couldn’t stomach the thought of spending too much on a wedding dress that I would wear one time.  My budget was $1500 before alterations.  Luckily I stuck pretty close to it and my dress was $1700 before taxes.  I’m still hating that I spent THAT much on it but I’m in love with this dress so I can’t complain.  I don’t think though that I could have stomached spending $4k on a dress though.  More power to you!  Btw, can you post or PM a pic of your dress?  I’m anxious to see it!  Thanks.

If you and your Fiance dont mind paying for it then go for it! My dress came out to about $1,300 after all alternations, ect… I actually found a dress that I loved similar to yours that would have been somewhere between $2000-2500 and I just couldnt do it, so I found something else that was close. It didnt have has much beading/lace (which cost a lot more) If you really love it you could try to find a pre-owned one. I almost went that way on the other dress I loved, but I couldnt find one close enough to my size.

DrCrazyCat :  Sounds like my dress story. At the end of the day it is your one day. At first I was worrying about spending money on any and everything wedding related. But I had to stop. As if I was to think about everything I was spending – it would all be a waste of money! As you do everything for a few a day only.

OP – I think the reason why you continued to look is because YOU didn’t find THE ONE. I think your entourage said the Allure dress looked good on you (I have to agree by the way, it comes across as regal) but maybe you had doubts. You probably also thought…bargain…$600. Bottom line if you can afford it and your not going to into debt. Be that princess for the day. You deserve it.

Let us know what you decide.

If this poll is about which dress we like more only I have to say I really love the JA dress, and love it on you. The first one is not my style at all, I personally feel way too much is going on.

If you can afford it, and can swing it, I would get the one you love. I would adjust spending elsewhere to try to justify the cost. If it is way too out of your budget, maybe keep looking for a similar style. I know wtoo has a similar dress to the JA and I think the price is less than. Good luck!

What a wonderful update! The JA dress is striking and side by side there’s no comparison. I’m glad you’re getting to wear the dress of your dreams!

What are your plans for the dress after the wedding? I ended up spending $3,100 which was totally out of my budget but my plan is to sell the dress after the wedding so I’m hoping to recoup a large portion of my cost. The dress looks great on you! I say to sit with it for a week or two and see if your heart is still set on it. You don’t want to go into the wedding day wishing you would have gone with the other dress.
