Thanks for the input.
They got the glasses from a huge wine tasting event and used them for their daughters wedding last summer – only 2 were broken and they expect that some will be broken. I have already cleared it with the venue to use these glasses. Once we run out of the Ridell glasses we will start using the venue’s smaller glasses. I think I will skip the name labels. Again – I appreicate the input.

I wouldn’t think it is a favor. Would you label your favors? I have never seen favors labelled.
People don’t take the name card either just because it has their name on it …. 😀
Your friend is being too cautious. Who would put glass in their bag and carry it about all night? Nobody.
Have the label AS the name card, then there will be no misunderstanding. If you had a name card and a labelled glass there could be a little confusion.

I wouldn’t, as pp stated they are being used to drink out of. If you are super concerned just make an announcement (though I think it’s unneccesary)

When you say reuse, do you mean for a refill of the same drink? If people will need to change glasses if they change drinks, is there really any point in starting out with the Riedel? In that case, I would opt for the smaller venue glasses that can be changed as needed as opposed to nicer glasses that you need to ask your guests to babysit, only to exchange for the smaller glass later on, anyway.

Don’t people usually do take their name cards where you live? In my experience, they almost always do.

Nope. And at another wedding they didn’t take the favors which were the nice candleholders that had been used on the table! Even though they were put on a side table afterwards and announced over the mic that guests should each take a glass candleholder because they were the favors.
Some people only had a clutch bag, some didn’t want to carry glass around, some forgot to take it at the end of the night and some didnt like the candle or had no use for it I guess.
I’ve only seen people take favors that are edible! 🙂
