Ugh, YES, it would drive me crazy, I had an ex who talked like that all the time, and I had no idea how to make him stop, it’s just so weird and immature

I dated a guy who once talked in a weird vampire voice every now and then … like old school dracula. People need to talk normal.
Like it should be a golden rule that everyone just knows automatically.

Sheesh

It’s awkward for sure.

Does she just think it would be weird for her to say something, or did she say something and he said she was making too much out of it? Because she should definitely say something if it makes her uncomfortable.

That’s almost as bad as him referring to himself in third person… super weird and awkward! haha

jennyjen9 :  that could work. Or he could think that she’s really into it and start doing it ALL the time.
Tell her to watch “The Jimmy” episode of Seinfeld… its not the exact same, but it’s similar… and then tell her to just comment on how weird it is the whole time.

Maybe he’ll get it

jennyjen9 :  Once or twice I would let it slide but if someone continued to do this, this would probably bug the hell out of me.

She could easily bring it up in a light joking manner l; “hey Im not a kid you know, you don’t have to always speak in third person”. That would bug me enough to mention it.

or she could start replying in the third person, untill he gets annoyed and stops.

Whats Amy having for lunch
Hmm Amy is not sure yet. Amy passed a new deli on her way to the office… Amy is thinking about seeing what the menu is like. Amy hopes they have a website…. Amy Likes sandwiches.

I’d probably say something like “I don’t know, I’ll have to ask her.” Teases back but makes the point.

Yeah or don’t even open the conversation with a positive or negative take on it, maybe just start with “I noticed you refer to me in the third person often. Why do you do that?” and take it from there. I don’t think she’s making too much over nothing but it could put him on the defensive. But also any worthwhile relationship needs to be able to have conversations about each others’ wants and preferences openly so may as well jump in. If he can’t handle this, then how will he handle stuff that really does matter? Plus give him a chance. Sounds like she’s just anxious about it but doesn’t even know if he’ll care anyway.

Ew that is annoying. I think it’s possible the guy is just bad at flirting and he thinks he’s being cute. I would turn it around on him, jokingly- “how is brad today?” But I would also quietly look for clues to see if he’s patronizing in other ways.

It reminds me of that creepy old man from the 90 Day Fiance show who married the 19 year old. He is constantly speaking down to her and phrases things like that. Blehhh
