I don’t think it’s weird at all – I’ve heard of alot of people skipping cake to do cupcakes, a dessert buffet, etc. If it makes you happy, do it!

I think it sounds delicious. And perfect. And you should do it. By The Way, grocery store sheet cakes are totally the way to go. I’ve heard good things about CostCo. Mt good friend from highschool did sheet cakes at her wedding and they were awesome. NOM NOM.  Plus, sheet cake = more corner pieces = more icing than a round cake.

Go for it. That looks yummy! Who says it has to be decorated traditionally anyway?

I totally just licked my screen… I’ve been dying for chocolate all night! Mmm turtles.

If you’re going to serve your guests something other than that cake– which looks so freakin’ delicious– they may notice. I mean, how can you not just drool over that cake? Everyone will see it when you do the cake cutting ceremony. My only advice is to make sure your bakery sheet cake isn’t obviously different. I’d go with a dark chocolate cake & maybe get them to throw some caramel or walnuts on top?

I agree that people might feel short changed if they saw that amazing cake and then got a piece of sheet cake instead.  I don’t know what your budget is but maybe you could find a few different cakes of various flavors and costs and serve them on a buffet?  It would be so cool to have a table with a whole bunch of different beautiful cakes.  My fiance and I are planning on doing a desert buffet and so many people have said they are excited for it.

I now really want cake.

But really. It’s fine. It’s your wedding. Go for it. But as people said above, I’d make sure that whatever cake you do give to your guests at least look as good as the one you posted does! I know I’d be confused if I got a wonderful vanilla buttercream slice when I saw that chocolatly nutty deliciousness!

It looks good!  But I am going to be another lemming here and advice to get a similar looking/tasting cake for the others ‘cos if I saw that cake, I’d want ‘what I thought’ that cake should taste like to match whatever was served, hehe.

Well that just made me drool all over my keyboard. Lots of couples seem to be skipping the traditional wedding cake for the cake buffet and I think it’s a great choice. go for it!

I think a cake buffet would be a great choice. I’d feel a little confused if I saw a chocolate cake displayed and then received a piece of yellow/white sheet cake on my plate. Can you provide a chocolate sheet cake too?
