@lismo:  Be advised that perceived open bars at weddings (your guests think you are paying per person, not per drink) encourage people to experiment with drinks they’ve never had before and may not end up liking and to be lazy about their drinks, i.e. leaving them around and forgetting about them or deciding to get a fresh one when the ice melts.

I would skip the desert by the venue & ask if they could give you either another drink option for cocktail hour (seems strange to call it “cocktail hour” & only offer champagne or beer; I would probably add a cash bar or offer a signature cocktail, but not necessary for sure) or another appetizer, or a midnight snack if you’re partying that long!
