We’re having our DJ do our ceremony music, and we’re thinking of doing contemporary music for the processional and recessional, instead of traditional wedding music. Here’s what we’re thinking – Please comment and let me know what you think of this combo of songs.
Processional of bridesmaids: Piano version of “Here Comes the Sun” by The Beatles
Processional of bride: Instrumental version of “Reign of Love” by Coldplay
Recessional: Regular studio version of “Friday I’m in Love” by The Cure – We’re getting married on a Friday, so I thought this would be cute 🙂
I just don’t know if the mishmash of different types of instrumental music and then a regular contemporary song with lyrics and all would be weird. What would you think as a guest at a ceremony with those music choices? Should I go for an instrumental version of “Friday I’m in Love” if I can find one? Or do you think the regular version is ok to use and wouldn’t be off-putting for a ceremony?

I think this would be ok, but if memory serves, VSQ has a version of Friday I’m in Love.

@chrissyb464: I don’t think it’s weird at all, it’s your wedding and why not add in something that suits your personality! Love the idea of using Friday I’m in Love, so cute!
This is what I’m considering for my processional, it’s a piano version of “Chasing Cars” by Snow Patrol – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_RSwXwxiM9U

At my *cough* first *cough* wedding we played Here Comes the Sun as my the husband and his mom walked down the aisle. It’s a beautiful song.

- Wedding: July 2012 - Baltimore Museum of Industry
Cute. We used Vitamin String Quartet versions for:
Family/processional: All You Need Is Love-Beatles
Me & Dad- A Thousand Years- Christina Perrie
Recessional- Your Love is King- Sade
Friday I’m in Love would be awesome (wish I had thought of it)

I’m using a VSQ cover of a song by The Used as my processional (not sure about anything else yet) you’re going to be hard pressed to find something that I think is weird 🙂

Our groom’s party entered to The Imperial March, bridal party entered to “Thank You For Being a Friend” (from Golden Girls), and I entered to SOmewhere Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World. I’m all for letting you and your FH’s personalities show – cookie cutter weddings get so boring!!

I don’t think it’s weird at all – I like it! I’m walking in to classical music and then our recessional is an 80s pop song!

@EffieTrinket: I looked for a VSQ version, and I found a tribute album to The Cure, but, go figure, Friday I’m in Love isn’t on it. Very weird. I’ll keep looking – Maybe it’s on a compilation album of theirs.
@something_orange: I think I like that piano version better than the original SP song 🙂 Very romantic!
@aliciapdx: My Fiance and I love The Beatles, so we had to incorporate a song into the ceremony. Did you do an instrumental version, or the original?
@rebwana: Thanks for the feedback! I was excited when I thought about it, but now I don’t know whether to use the original or an instrumental version.
@Lollybags: Ahh yay! I feel better knowing that someone else is using modern music in their ceremony – I guess I was insecure bc I’ve never heard of it being done before 🙂 Thanks!
