honeybee16 : This is why you purchase wedding insurance.
I’m not a musician, but I am a wedding photographer. Unfortunately, my clients do not get refunds for weather cancelations (or any other cancellation). I live in the south east, and it’s known that certain times of the year are hurricane months. Choosing to get married in a month where extreme weather conditions happen is taking a chance.
This is exactly the reason I have a clause in my contract specifically about wedding insurance, and while I can’t require my clients purchase it, I highly suggest it because they are responsible for payment regardless of the cancellation reason.
When a client books me, I am essentially putting my life on hold for them for the next 12+ months. That means I’m not getting pregnant and having a baby during their wedding month, I’m not going on vacation, or opting to see a concert that day, etc. I’ve had clients cancel or move their weddings around for all kinds of reasons and while I’d love to be a kind person who gives them their money back I’m running a business and once I book a client I’m turning down others for that date. Others who will follow through with their commitment and pay me. I make every possible effort to make new dates work and 99% of the time they do, but there are definitely times when they don’t – and in those cases there is no refund.
