Fiance or I don’t really like cake at all. We are more brownie people. Even cupcakes are a little better than cake. We’ve been debating on whether or not we should have one for the sake of tradition (we both really like the idea of cutting it in front of everyone…as lame as it is :p) Is there a way we could have the same concept, but without cake? I really like the idea of having a bunch of different desserts anyway, not just one boring old cake.
My mom brought up the idea off having a fancy little cake for us to cut, and then have a sheet cake for people who actually want to eat cake, and then an assortment of other desserts… What would you all think if you went to a wedding That had this? Did you do something similar? Any ideas?

Could you have an assorted dessert display featuring pies, cupcakes, brownies, cookies, pastries, etc… and just have a big brownie (or whatever) with a cake topper on it for you guys to cut so you keep that tradition without having to eat a bunch of cake?

I actually like wedding cake but as long as there were other dessert items to choose from I wouldn’t miss it much. If you don’t like and don’t want cake, there are plenty of other options out there. I would not be put off by some decadent brownies instead of a wedding cake. Yum!

I’m not a cake person, so I wouldn’t mind.
At our wedding we did cupcakes because my husband isn’t a cake person either. People that love cake, love cupcakes so they were happy.
And I love the idea of a dessert bar – I think people with a sweet tooth will be happy with any kind of dessert (pie, cookies, cupcakes, etc.)

as long as there is some kind of dessert I don’t care

Honestly, one of my favorite things about weddings is the cake.

i love cake so i would be sad but at the same time, if the bride and groom don’t like cake then i’d understand. it’s your wedding so you should have the dessert that you guys love.

I vote for a tiered giant brownie that you cut plus other desserts for those who don’t like chocolate/brownies.
Kinda like this:

I don’t really like cake so I wouldn’t miss it. We did have one at our wedding but only because Darling Husband insisted we have one. But I like the idea of a small cake just to cut! Or you could do cupcakes with the small cake at the top.

I love cake, but I’m a sweets person. As long as there is some type of dessert there I’d be fine with it. I would offer a variety beyond brownies, but personally I would be happy with just a brownie 🙂

The only way I wouldn’t miss cake is if there were fancy desserts. I make cookies and brownies a lot at home, so I don’t see them as special. I don’t make things like tiramisu or cheesecake at home, so I’d be drooling over those.

I don’t care as long as there is a dessert I can dig into at the end of my meal. I’d be disappointed if there was no dessert though.

@Eckle: Love the tiered brownie idea!
I don’t think I would even notice that there wasn’t cake.

We didn’t have a traditional cake but we did have a French creampuff tower and a dessert table. So I say do whatever you want.

@Eckle: Thats a great idea for the OP!!!
We are having a very small cake to cut for “tradition” although… Fiance just recently brought up the “why” question. So maybe we will be doing without cake too! Fiance hates any and all kinds of icing, which is why we’d have a small one. We are also have a small sweet and sour candy bar (FI loves sour candy) mini pecan pies, a cookie tray, and his mom’s blueberry kuchen (sp?). If we forgo cake maybe we’ll have some other kind of dessert.
As a guest I myself would not be upset if there was no cake as long as there is something else! I’m not too picky.
