We are having a backyard wedding at Future In-Laws.  Someone suggested a porta potty.  Both Future Mother-In-Law and I put our foot down and said absolutely not.  I can’t imagine.

If it was a fancy dress party, then yes. If it was casual or church-clothes-type party, then probably less so. But you can’t have porta-potties at black tie, or even black tie optional. No one wants to drag long silk and beaded gowns across plastic someone else has pissed on!

I’d deal, as I always do when I’m really grossed out and that’s all that’s available, but unhappily, especially with that many people (unless you had like 10 of them), and especially if I was dressed up.

    Yes, sorry 🙁

I have a small/overactive bladder (sorry for the Too Much Information, lol) and if I know I’m going to an outdoor event where the only bathroom is a portapotty, I won’t drink anything all day because I don’t want to have to use it. It just grosses me out.

It would suck at a wedding because I’d be all dressed up, and I’d want to drink and have a good time, but I’d be way too preoccupied with doing everything in my power not to have to pee.

Sorry but I’m going to be honest. I went to a wedding a couple of years ago with porta-potties and it was so disgusting. I was not happy about it (drove 6 hours each way to use a porta-potty?!). I still think back on it and can’t believe it. I think it’s in poor taste to asks guests who are dressed in their finest clothes and who have given you gifts to squat in a porta-potty like they’re at the state fair or DMB concert. Maybe your friends and family wouldn’t mind, but I think most people would be a little put off.

I refuse to use them. So honestly, I’d stay for as long as I could, but I’d leave if I had to use the restroom and you wouldnt let me in the house to do it.

Even if this poll makes you change your mind and let people use the bathroom, be forewarned – your septic system (and any one designed for a residential house) is not designed to handle the waste from an entire wedding in one day. You’ll likely get bad backup issues!

I think it’s insensitive to guests. For a hot August wedding, guests should be provided food, water, shade/cooling and decent bathroom facilities. I’d be grossed out if I was mingling with people, eating food, etc with only hand sanitized hands and knowing others had only used hand sanitizer too. Id also be a little irritated for dressing up, driving over, bringing a gift but not having a real bathroom available to me. I’d say to compromise your own desires a bit for the guests who are making the effort to celebrate with you.
