I wouldn’t be offended.

But don’t go by me, lol.  😉

I wouldn’t be offended at all. It’s a pretty timeless tradition and was used in the church back in the day…no details on readings, though, sorry!

I would have never known it was a pagan tradition had I not opened this post.

As a Christian, knowing something isn’t right by God, I wouldn’t do it. If something is a pagan tradition, I wouldn’t do it.

But that’s just my opinion. You have to do what’s right by you.

I wouldn’t have a problem with it at all.

@Birdee106:  Do you not use any of the pagan traditions now commonly used for Christian holidays?

@Birdee106:  Um, you do realize Christmas trees and Easter eggs began as pagan traditions, right?

There are tons of things adopted by Christianity that began as pagan traditions/rituals.  Even the colors of green and red as Christmas colors began that way.

I’m a Christian.  But I don’t think God minds what someone does in their wedding celebration as long as it is done with love and respect.

@jpalm13:  Odds are good someone is going to get offended…thats how the world works now….hell, I’m probably offending someone right now, by inferring that they’re offended….what you have to do is decide that you don’t care and since pissing someone off is easier than catching the plague in 16th century England…I operate under the assumption that someone will be offended, they’ll be self involved enough to tell me about it and expect a reaction from me, at which point I’ll be prepared to laugh at them and walk away…on a scale of offensive things, 1 being cupcakes and 10 being Honey Boo-Boo…a handfasting comes in at a -67…so it’s all good.

@Sunfire:  I said that was my opinion. No need to attack. Celebrating a holiday and incorporating something into a wedding are two different things to me. My wedding ceremony is something completely centered around God and my marriage.

I think it’s great that you are a christian and believe what you do. But I believe 100% that God minds what I do in my wedding. Being a christian isn’t about just being a good person. It’s about living for God.

@jpalm13:  Exactly!  Speaking as a Christian who practices some things Wiccan, too, lol.  😉

Go for it!

Not at all. I’m actually thinking about doing one too. I would just check with your priest, if you’re having one, that he or she is okay with it.
