If it was my first time, I’d make someone go with me.  Hahaha.  But I definitely wouldn’t look on CL.  I’m way too paranoid.

But because you’ve done it before (the drive itself) I think you’ll be fine!

I would do it, but would definitely extend the trip since I wouldn’t have anyone to switch driving with or help me stay awake.

Maybe map out just driving during the day and look at where you could stay nightly… if I were alone I would definitely avoid driving at night when falling asleep is a risk.

Otherwise, have fun! I love driving on roadtrips!

No I wouldn’t be scared to do it alone.  I would just stick to main highways and not back roads and stay at decent places along the way.  But I would definitely NOT get someone from CL.  They could be totally crazy or shaddy.

Alternatively you can just have  your car shipped and fly to LA.  I’ve done that once.

I did it when I was 22, fresh out of college, and moving cross country for a job. It wasn’t so bad…I just drove all day until I was exhausted, stopped driving in a safe, populated area to stay at a hotel overnight, and woke up and did it all over again. I just brought tons of books on CD and only stopped for gas in well-lit areas with people around. To be honest, I think I’d be more scared of finding a random stranger on Craig’s List to drive with than going by myself.

I would do it alone. And I would definitely do it alone if the alternative was driving with a stranger from Craigslist.

You’ll be fine!  I drove to Utah last summer by myself, and I was completely fine.  🙂

Just be safe – don’t talk to strangers, and keep your cell phone charged.

I wouldn’t be worried at all.  I’d probably be bored out of my mind though. lol

I’m just wondering if it’s physically possible to do it in a reasonable amount of time? The longest Darling Husband or I can drive for in one stretch is about 4 hours, then we need at least an hour break, usually with an actual nap, before going back at it. We drive to his parents house sometimes which is a 12 hour drive and I know for sure I couldn’t do it alone unless I did it over a couple days time.

I woudn’t do it, but since you have done it before and you know what to expect, go for it!  I like the idea of mapping out hotels.  That seems really smart.  I agree, that sharing a trip with a stranger from Craigslist has the potential for danger.

I would not have a problem with it….but then I am used to driving long distances. I once dated a guy that lived 12 hours away and drove to his place once a month. I routinelyy visit family that lives about 5 hours away and I make that all in one shot.

I would go alone before I drove with someone that I didn’t know…but I would still be worried about making the drive alone. You never know what could happen…your car could break down in a place where you don’t have cell service…but I’m also a scardy cat.
