How much is the refurb.  I’ve bought a refurb netbook once and it worked fine.  It did have a dead pixel on the screen that they didnt cover though.  (It was Dell and they said they dont fix dead pixels unless theres more than 5).

I’ve bought a refurbished toshiba, and have had zero internal problems with it whatsoever. The only issue I’ve had is self inflicted, from dropping the damn thing once.

@MapleBecky:  That sounds pretty good.  There was a similar laptop on Lenovo’s outlet site for $370 after a 15% off coupon.  I usually check slickdeals.net and fatwallet.com to find deals or compare prices.  I don’t know if it helps much for Canada tho 🙁

I’ve heard Lenovo is pretty good.  I have always had Toshibas and I have always liked them too.

I don’t know much about refurbished though.  As long as it has a warranty, it will be good.

I think it’s normally returns for whatever reason, not necessarily for repair, or that anythign was wrong with it in the firs tplace.  Most places return policy is 30 or 60 days though so it cant be that used, but they can’t sell it as new anymore.  They should have to go through a full functional test and be good as new.  With a warrenty as good as a  new one, it sounds pretty safe.  Many refurbs only come with a 90 day warrenty instead of the full year.

I’ve bought a refurbished laptop, which got me through college and beyond, and more recently an iPod nano, which seemed completely new (actually, as I’m saying that, I can’t remember if I got it new or refurbished. Hmm.) Also, I’ve had a Lenovo, which was actually great until it got fried by a power surge, not the laptop’s fault! Surge protectors are important. The only thing with Lenovo is that sometimes they do odd proprietary things, like mine had trouble connecting to university wireless because of the way the system was set up. I’ve also had a Toshiba Satellite which I liked just fine too. What can I say, I’m some kind of connoisseur of cheap laptops.

I bought a refurb mac.  Darling Husband used to sell computers and he is a designer that works on them so he needs a good one and knows a lot about them, and he is all for it.

I also have a refurb Toshiba and I LOVE IT. I got mine on ebay, I’ll find the seller for you.

rcptechnology is the seller. They are based in the states too.

@MapleBecky:  I’ve never done refurbished, but I just bought my second Toshiba Satellite. I love them – never had a problem with the first one until it was 5+ years old (and it still works most of the time).

The only downside to Toshibas is that the battery life maxes out at about 5 hours – never been a problem for me, but depending on where/when he needs to use it, it’s something to think about.

I’ve never bought a refurbished laptop but if it has the same warrenty as the new ones, seems good to me!

I have a Lenovo and Darling Husband uses one for work and we both love them!
