A restaurant is not a place that you go to every single day for every meal. So I dont get the comparison between restaurant tableware and baby bottles/nipples.

Only if they were glass. If plastic, no.

I would definitely buy used bottles and purchase new nipples separately.

@bells:

germs are germs.  clean is clean.  How often or not often you use something, especially if its cleaned properly, has 0 effect on what you’re exposed to.   If you’re comfortable eating with a fork at Applebees, it doesn’t follow that you’d worry about what could be on a bottle that you’ve sanitized yourself.  Besides the fact that there are far more germs under the average person’s fingernail than on anything made of plastic.

I’m not having a baby yet but when I do … bottles is one of the few things i’d never buy used.

I get weirded out by used items in general. Pretty much the only thing I could consider buying used is a car, art, and furniture that people don’t sit or sleep on, (like a bookcase or dresser).  Anything else just grosses me out.  So I definitely would not buy anything used for my (future) baby.  To me buying used bottles is like buying used dishes for  yourself.  Would  you do that?

I’d be more comfortable buying glass bottles than plastic ones, but I would definitely considering buying them used. New nipples for sure though.

I’m a crazy person who buys most things new for the baby. So bottles are def on my must be new list, but like I said, there aren’t many things that are used for my baby girl, with the exception of furniture and clothes.

@Meowkers:

Why not?   How are they any dirtier than new dishes if you’ve washed them?

Sorry, I just don’t get the logic here.  Obviously buying anything used and not cleaning it… gross… but with a tablespoon or 2 of bleach and hot water, dishes/bottles/what have you are just as clean, if not more clean, than when you take them out of a package.

@mandypop: what you said through and through.

I’d buy new nipples more to make sure that they don’t start cracking rather than to make sure they were clean.

i feel like buying used bottles is like buying used pacifiers…and that’s just bizzarre to me!

i am totally all for going used, I probably will get several things used…but I couldn’t imagine getting anything used that went in my baby’s mouth. even if it is sanitized, I just wouldn’t do it. Bottles aren’t really a big expensive…you can get some nice BPA free ones for under 5 dollars….

ETA: I just read all the previous posts. buying new nipples would work too!
