I am looking to order Karena Royale in the next month or two and am contemplating switching the corset out for a zipper with buttons to cover the zipper. I think that will look cleaner than the corset on this particular dress. The decision determines what size I should order.
If anyone has altered a corset to a zipper and can ballpark the costs/difficulties associated with it I’d appreciate it!

i’d be afraid that removing it would change the integrity of the dress design.

I think it would be beautigul with a zipper, I think it’s a little more timeless than the corset back. The hesitation I would have is if your weight fluctuates and you gain or lose a lot of weight just before the wedding it’s easier with a corset for the dress to still fit comfortably.

Unless you do the zipper thing one week before the wedding so if you gain or lose weight it won’t matter because it will still fit… I would leave the corset in.

I prefer zippers because I want the dress to fit like a glove and I think with a corset there will always be some loosening throughout the night (I could be wrong, have never worn one) , or the people doing it up wont have it tied right or wont tie it tight enough or something..plus I like the idea that it will never fit anyone like it fits me because it is exactly my size and cant just be tied looser to fit someone a bit bigger (not ideal if you plan to resell of course)
But like others said, if there is a chance you will lose or gain weight it is probably best to stick with the corset.

Ah! I made a post here on WB months ago about this very issue! I LOVED this dress, but didn’t like the corset back (on me; just a personal preference).
I spoke to a seamstress about the possibility of changing it to a zipper back, and she said it would 1) be very expensive, and 2) compromise the integrity of the dress structure. Another drawback is I would have had to purchase the dress several sizes larger than what I needed just to allow for enough fabric/space in the bodice for the change from corset to zipper.
In the end, it didn’t seem like a great idea.

I would change it. It will look classic, romantic, perfect!

@Ms Bookworm: Yeah it is tough since I don’t have the dress, I don’t know what it would cost and think a seasmtress would have a hard time determining without having it in hand. But depending on what I wanted to do determines the size to order. It’s a catch 22!
My personal opinion is that the hidden zipper wouldn’t destroy the integrity, as I think the corset on this particular gown does, because it breaks up the beautiful lace and the sash.
The dress is already a little more than I wanted to spend, so I don’t want to spend an exhorbitant amount on alterations. I’ve also been the same weight for about 4 years and don’t fluctuate easily. Decisions decisions.

Having just the hidden zipper without the buttons is also an option.
