There has been a few post in the past and recently that got me wondering what everyone here would chose if price was taken out of the equation. So let play pretend and have these two gems be the same price per ct. Everything else would be the same like how a gem is mined, created, or how abundant one is versus the other etc. I am curious especially those that really love the sparkle of the moissanite, would you still chose that stone? Or those who love diamonds still chose it if is wasn’t as valuable?
I will start, I think I would still chose a diamond. But to be honest I have never seen a moissanite in person nor knew that stone existed till I visited here. And even though that stone really sparkles from the pictures posted, there is still something about the diamond for me.
Now is your turn, which you prefere and please also comment why you chose one over the other.

This is at least the 10th thread this week about the same topic, and they all end in an argument or hurt feelings. I’m hoping this thread wasn’t started in hopes of causing drama. that being said, I would personally choose diamond no matter which was more or less expensive. I do think that moissys are beautiful, I just dont prefer them. The bottom line of this thread: to each their own!

I like color so I said neither. I guess I’d go with a green diamond if I had to pick between the two top options.
Also, I don’t like fake stones so a moissy would never work for me.

Moissanite. I just love how it sparkles.

Both. Gemstones are like Pokemon, right? Gotta catch ’em all.

Moissanite. I love how it sparkles and if it were the same cost then people wouldn’t be so judgmental about it. I don’t understand the hate. people should just be happy that other people are happy with their ring choice.
Also, what girl doesn’t love more sparkle? people are lying if they say they dont yet they have a ton of CZ or diamond jewelry.
There is just a judgment on Moissy due to the diamond industry so you wont get accurate results.

I don’t judge moissy because of the diamond industry. I just like the fact that diamonds come from the earth and are natural (not just diamonds, other gems also) , they can take millions of years to form, I think it makes them much more apealing and special FOR ME. I’m very passionate about archeology, paleontology, geology, and just finding amazing things in the ground. Its just my personal preference.

I’m a geologist so I choose diamond solely on the fact that they are a geological marvel! I’m also a fan of Zircons (natural) because the oldest stone in the world is a zircon and has allowed the dating of the Earths formation which is pretty cool for just a little crystal!

I would have said diamond, but now I have my moissanite I would choose it over and over again. It’s not the cost that I love about them, but the fire. Absolutely beautiful.

@WannaBeeMrsB: We actually had this same exact question like a month ago.
I have a diamond setting w/a moissanite center. Probably would go the same route. Although I guess it depends on how they’re sourced.

@deetroitwhat: I can totally see that! It has to be one of the most repeated topics on the boards… and I don’t understand because everyone is going to answer with whatever stone THEY HAVE. No matter how the question is phrased. You may as well ask “Do you have a moissy, diamond, or other stone?” … and for some reason always turns into an argument : *sigh*

Whatever I ended up picking I wouldn’t turn into a horrible person over it. Gollum style. “Must not wear a fake prrrrrreeeeecious….”
I might go for a nice emerald, a good specimen with no oil or filling.

If diamonds were cheap it would bathe in them.
but they aren’t, and I don’t like them because we are pretty smart with our money and I demanded that we don’t want to spend our riches on my sparkle crack.
i prefer travel crack and our nice big beautiful house 🙂

If natural moissanites were mined, and I could see what they look like in their normal dark green color cut into gems, I suspect that I might quite like them.
I would still choose diamond for my engagement ring because that’s what screams “marriage” to both my Fiance and me… that’s what my mom had, thats what my grandma had, etc., and I’ve also fallen in love with the way a very high quality modern round brilliant diamond looks.
But, if natural moissanite looked like how I’m imagining, (kinda similar to dark green sapphire, is what I’m thinking), it would totally be something I would consider for other jewelry. An untreated green sapphire is a thing of simply stunning beauty!

@subtlebee: I’ve read that natural green diamonds are radioactive, which I was upset about, because I agree that that just sounds spectacular.
I believe that treated green diamonds are irradiated in a nuclear reactor (like the treated blue ones) to get that color, too, which could result in the same probem of the stone being radioactive.
