Our wedding is coming up in 36 days and we’re trying to figure out our wedding party favors.
We absolutely adore macarons from this French bakery and were thinking of boxing individual macarons for each guest to place on their place seating.
But I had also purchased apocathery jars months ago anticipating that I would do a “How sweet it is to be loved by you” cookie/chocolate dessert bar where we would place some of the macarons but also other cookies and chococolate and candy (i.e more variety). I would have little bags or take out boxes where guests can pick their own items.
My fiance doesn’t know if that would be a good idea because not everyone will get what they want since we’re not going to do one of everything for each guest.
What would you do?
1) Box individual macaron for each guest to put on their place setting
2) Do the favor dessert buffet
What do you think guests will enjoy more? We are having about 120 guests, a mix of family, our friends, and our family’s friends….
Oh, and for the cake we are doing mini cupcakes =)

I would rather have the dessert buffet so I can pick my own cookies/chocolate. And I think it’d be fun and cute!

Adore Macarons, but I do agree with going the dessert bar route. Not eveyone knows what macarons are, and may prefer more “familiar” desserts. Plus if there are any macarons left over, you can stash them in the freezer for yourself .

What are macarons? They sound yummy! I would enjoy a dessert bar with a variety of yummies, and your guests will have fun picking and choosing and creating their own little gift bags. Awesome idea!

The desert bar as not everyone likes macarons.

French macarons are these delicious light cookies with a cream filling. They come in a variety of flavors and colors, the outside is sort of like a meringue texture and the inside usually has a flavored filling. My absolute favorite ones are espresso and passionfruit. (I attached a pic for you for reference)
Scottielass, I totally hear you on that suggestion. I would never let a macaron go to waste!

Macarons (which is the actual name and differentiates them from macaroons which are the coconut cookies) are something people either love or hate.
Favors are not required and people will not miss them if they are not there. On the other hand, I would never consider a dessert table to be favors since that is dessert which is typically served after the meal, and favors are something that are typically taken home and not consumed or used at the wedding. Either way, it’s a personal decision so no right or wrong. To answer your question, since you want to have favors, go with a regular dessert bar since that will please more people.

i would choose more variety and let guests pick their own mainly b/c i don’t like macaroons and i don’t know many people who do…

We are doing a candy buffet and very excited!

That’s a long way to fly to try a French macaron! Thanks everyone for your thoughts. Yeah, I hadn’t really thought of the fact that people might not like macarons!

@Ms.MochaFreeze: I did Parisian macaroon favors and they were adorable if I do say so myself. I did two cookies in my ‘colors’, in a cellophane bag, and attached a little Just Married tag with our names and the wedding date.
I voted both, if you can afford it.

while i do like the idea of the buffet, i personally prefer something boxed that i can take home if i decide not to eat it there..
