Extended stay apartments tend to be insanely expensive. Like, way more expensive than a real apartment – and way more expensive than a regular hotel would be. I think only you know whether the financial tradeoff is worth it. Is there a big craigslist community where you are? You guys could rent out a room for a few months in a house/apartment for SO much less!

How does the cost factor weight in for each apartment?

I would stay in a hotel to wait for a better apartment for sure!

All good things are worth the wait.. =)  I’d do it since his work will pay for an extended stay where you can still cook.  You hit on the key points – a great apt in a nice area vs an ok apt in less than desireable place.  Having heat included in winter can be pretty big too, but if youre moving in Jan, you wont really get to take advantage of that since Jan – Mar is really the coldest months.
