I would purchase a dress second hand and do a trash the dress photo shoot. I love the idea of it, but i’m not willing to waste the cash and ruin such a special dress! I talked to a friend who is married and she said that after all of her friends are married they’re going to do a reunion in their dresses and view slideshows or something online of all their weddings.

Oh I wouldn’t! If I didn’t sell my dress after, I’d want to keep it in nice condition.

@Sminthy:  I agree with this — I am in love with my wedding dress and it was pricier than I expected it to be, no way I am ruining it!  HOWEVER I do plan to buy a cheapo dress (that looks like a traditional dress since my real dress is somewhat untraditional) and do a ttd session.  Yeah!

i never would have done it with my actual wedding dress. my condition for doing it was finding an affordable dress (as in around $100), which i did, so i then I decided to do a TTD.  However, that is because i was always planning to sell my dress and needed to keep it in good condition.  If i hadn’t cared about the money i would get back from selling, then maybe i would have done it with my real dress.

I am not one to get too much sentimental attachement to material things – I will most definitely be doing a trash the dress session in some waterfalls nearby – cant wait!

@CanadianMermaid:  oh are you getting married in Ochos Rios? I can’t remember….if so, then i think i have seen waterfall TTD pics there and they are GORGEOUS! i would have done them, but coming from Montego Bay it would have been too much of a hassle to get there and back adn my photog’s only time to do them with us was the morning she was leaving.

So wasteful. I will be attempting to sell my dress. If I cannot sell it to try to make back some of what was spent on it, I will be donating it to a charity that specializes in wedding dresses for those who cannot afford them.

I think finding an inexpensive second dress to trash is a great idea.

While I can understand that the TTD concept seems wasteful to some, I think its a cute and modern idea that produces photographs to enjoy for years to come!

Plus, I have heard countless stories of brides doing TTD sessions and having the dress dry cleaned to look like new again.  I think as long as you don’t COMPLETELY trash the dress (ex. paint, ink), you can get the photo experience and have the dress left over to do as you wish

I did a trash the dress ‘light’ session.  We did photos the day after the wedding and I wore my wedding dress. We sat on tree limbs over the water, I waded into it with rain boots on, we posed in fields at DH’s familys farm, laid on blankets and things but did no actual damage to my dress.

It was tons of fin and I love the pictures from that session almost more than my wedding shots!
