Because kindey problems run in my family I would only give one up if it was for someone extremely close to me, like my mom, sister, dad, or husband (or future child, obviously, but we don’t have any yet). Because of all the health risks that run in my family, kindey-wise, it would be unwise for me to part with mine unless it was for someone in my family.

No, I wouldn’t. Maybe that makes me a bad person but organs are hot commodities. I would only donate to a loved one.

Probably only to close friend or family to be totally honest.

My kidney is on reserve for my sister because it is highly likely due to medical conditions that she will need it in her lifetime.

I am all for donating blood, bone marrow, cord blood, etc for use by the general public, but I have to say when it comes to organs, I would only consider donating for a family member or really close friend.    Now after I’m dead….by all means, take anything and everything that’s salvagable, but whilst still alive, I probably wouldn’t get tested to see if I was an organ match for someone in need of a transplant to avoid having that horrible guilt hanging over my head if I chose not to donate.

@Ree723:  I couldn’t have said it better myself. This is exactly how I feel.

My dad already lost a kidney a few weeks ago. If his other one goes bad I’d give him mine in a heartbeat. Other than family, no.

I have two kidneys, I’m 24 years old. I would gladly give a kidney to any child so maybe hopefully they could live to be at least 24. I can live without the extra kidney, if they need one obviously they can’t. Anyone, I don’t care who the child was, if they needed my kidney they would get it

I’m pretty saddened at many of the responses, that’s what we’ve come to I guess
