Okay, they are ugly.

But I would never dump someone over something they wore (except maybe a KKK outfit or something actually offensive). I would however consider dumping someone who would get upset to the point of walking out the door without me over a piece of clothing that they hate that I actually love.

ETA: Oops, didn’t realize this was such an old thread? Are you guys still together or did the shoes come between you?

They look like something Hugh Hefner would wear, but I woud definitely not dump him over that. However, if $$$ is a big issue for you, then watch his spending patterns. Are $495 shoes the norm for him or a special occasion indulgence? That’s the yellow flag, not poor fashion sense, lol.

I would be pissed about spending $400+ on any shoes but would I throw my relastionship away over it, no. If you are willing to throw your sheos away over a material, then that relationship isnt right for you.

@JennaWade: These are Prince Albert slippers, traditionally worn by the host, with a tuxedo or smoking jacket, when holding a black tie event in his own home.

Duncan:

Thank you, Duncan! I was astonished and a bit appalled after reading the many negative and derogatory comments here. I have seen some astonishingly hideous things posted by people on these boards, but I don’t have to like them, so I bite my tongue and keep it to myself that I find the item(s) utterly ghastly. I gather that not very many posters know about classic menswear. My husband owns a very similar pair of velvet Prince Albert slippers, and yes, they do cost $500 as they are typically handmade with the finest materials. They are not a fashion fad, but a component of classic style that dates back to the 19th century.

However, they are not meant to be worn outside, but a stylish choice for a black tie party at home. Do you have a pair, too, Duncan? You are very stylish, so I wouldn’t be surprised.

They are just shoes. No matter how ugly or disgusting you think you are. That are just shoes. What are you going to tell people when they ask why you broke up? That he bought a pair of shoes you can’t stand?

JennaWade:  Unless you have a joint account, I think you are overreacting. They are hideous and way too expensive, but uf bought them with his own money then you cannot be upset about them.

JennaWade:  What’s the most you’ve spent on shoes? A purse? It’s his money. He can do as he wishes. I, personally think that you are acting childish. Maybe he likes them and you should step back and let him be his own person.

This whole thread has to be a joke right? $500 on a pair of slippers is bad enough but the title of this thread is simply “Would you dump your SO if he WORE these shoes” so it sounds more like you just don’t like him wearing them rather than the actual cost. Tell me this is a joke!

Fiance and I were casually perusing weddingbee boards and came across this post. We knew it was a few years old, but Fiance totally recognized the shoes as Albert slippers, which are apparently WAY fancy and classic menswear. We read every single post to see at what point someone would mention the background of the shoes! It took a whole 9 pages!

For the record, though, I thought they were a little weird too and DIY-able. Good post!

I don’t really see what is wrong with them. So they are unusual, so what? I think you’re being very self-centred and immature about this matter.
