I’ve been thinking about having bottles of wine, cheese, fruit and bread set out on the tables to serve as centerpieces AND as snacks. Would you eat it? Or be scared to screw up the centerpiece? I’d want people to dig in and enjoy!
We’re having a July wedding (outdoor ceremony, indoor reception) with an open bar and tons of heavy hors d’oeuvres.

You could place little notecards saying something cute about enjoying the centerpieces. I think that would get your point across. ๐

Agh! Excellent idea! I hadn’t even considered that. Sheesh.
It’s going to be a pretty laid-back party, so I could even say “We know you’re starving. We are too. Feel free to devour the centerpiece!” Ha!! I love it!

Me personally, would totally eat it! I could see how others might be reluctant though, so I second the idea of putting a cute little note stating that it is meant for eating. I love this idea! what a money saver!

@cyndistar3: Right?? I think it’s a great way to save money! AND a great way to have lovely decor that will actually be “used”. Flowers are of course beautiful, but I hate the idea of spending all that money just to have them thrown in the trash at the end of the night.
@AmeliaBedelia: Thank you!! I’m seriously thinking I might!

I would totally eat the centrepieces. Wow, that’s a weird thing to say on here for once… LOL! I would also name the table as per the type of cheese and do local cheeses with appropriate wine pairings with little blurbs about both. Mmmmm cheese….

At first I would be like “Is it real? Can we eat it?” and if there was a little sign, I would eat it.

@MaggieMae2609: that is exactly what I am thinking… I might have to put food of sorts in the middle for a center piece as well since I am on such a tight budget! I am inspired =)

Edible centerpieces? Genius! I’d definitely partake if there was a note telling me to do so.

@bakerella: HA! “I would totally eat the centerpieces.” Love it ๐ I also love love LOVE the idea about local pairings! We have a local goat cheese fromagerie that I would LOVE to support in a bigger way than my occasional goat cheese OD :
I think grapes would probably be the only feasible option for fruit – nobody’s gonna eat an un-sliced apple, and sliced apples/pears would get gross very quickly.
Add in a sliced baguette (sliced at the last possible second so it doesn’t go stale) and we’ll be set! I LOVE this idea!!

@cyndistar3: YESSSSSS!! Glad I could provide a little inspiration with my very first wedding (non-waiting) post ๐
I am so glad you ladies like it!! That definitely bolsters my confidence in the plan. I think I’m gonna do it! I just talked to Fiance a second ago, and he loves it too. He’s a waste not want not kinda guy, so a “functional” centerpiece is right up his alley.

Maybe even have the bottle pre-opened both to let the wine breath and to make it easier to tuck in..
