Just for fun, you can check out this link full of both high-fashion and highly creative hats from this year’s Derby and several past events: http://msn.foxsports.com/horse-racing/photos/hats-and-horses-the-best-headpieces-from-the-kentucky-derby-042914#img_1
Would you wear a hat? Would you go for a more conservative style, or a “statement” piece?
If you’ve ever attended, share a picture!

I wear hats to Keeneland sometimes. I’ve never wanted to go to derby but I’d like to go to Oaks.

I voted I would attend and wear a fascinator, mainly because I adore them, but I definitely wouldn’t be opposed to wearing a statement hat either. I love everything “Southern” so I need to attend at least once!

I have never been to Kentucky, but I have attended Royal Ascot, and wore hats on both occasions. Of course, I am British and love wearing hats of all kinds. Most of the hats in the pictures would be perfect for Royal Ascot, but many of the dresses wouldn’t work.
I don’t think I will ever have a reason to travel to the Derby, not with so many prestigious races taking place right here at home, but I am definitely not opposed.

Attending the Kentucky Derby is on my bucket list! I would love to go and wear an amazing hat.

This was actually the first Derby I’ve missed in 8 years! I was at my FSIL’s bachelorette party. I was really bummed. I love going to the Oaks and to the Derby and I always wear a hat. You have to wear a hat. Almost all women in the grandstands wear a hat. It’s part of the fun. You can buy hats, but my mom always made hers, so now I make mine. I buy a form in the color I want and then add on all the decoration that I want. I actually made a fascinator many years ago before they were super popular but usually go with the large, wide brimmed variety.

MrsEdamame: I’d go and wear a bangin hat & dress! Our local fair has horse races & they have a ladies hat day once a year- all the local ladies act & dress as if it’s the Kentucky Derby and the best dressed/best hat/most creative all get cash prizes. One of the best parts of my summer sittin outside, bettin on horses in my sunday finest, and sippin mint juleps!

I am from Kentucky and have never been to the Derby. I love to go to the track, but we have Keeneland here is Lexington, which is prettier than Chruchill and I don’t really like Louisville. That said, I would much rather attend the Oaks, which is the Friday before Derby. It’s the race Kentuckians tend to go to rather than the Derby…..I do love the hats. My FB feed was full of Oaks pictures on Friday!

MrsEdamame: I would totally do it. We live not far from Woodbine where the Queens Plate is held and I’ve always wanted to go and get dressed up and wear a fancy hat but FH is not in to it at all.

- Wedding: June 2014 - Cedar Lake Cellars
I have been to the Kentucky Derby once, but only in the infield. I did not wear a hat but it’s a whole other type of party in the “cheap seats” 🙂

Yes! I love horse races. There’s a huge one in my hometown. Next year, I’m doing the whole deal.

Hell yes, and….. Hell yes!!!
Isn’t wearing the hat half the fun of going?
Funny I was talking about this with the Fiance 2 days ago.

MrsEdamame: I’m obsessed with the derby! It’a definitely on my bucket list, and I love looking at pictures of derby fashion on instagram. I’d definitely wear a statement piece hat, and likely a Kate Spade dress.

Hotel rooms in Louisville are outrageous during Derby. Many have a 3 night or more minimum and are thousands of dollars. You have to book way in advance, I’ve heard. 🙂 A law school friend was telling me she tried to book somethere downtown and it was like $3K for 3 nights. She ended up at like a holiday inn for like $300 (or more) a night……

My mom goes and has hats made to wear there. I haven’t been because I’m away at school, but I’d probably go once just to go.
