It would leave me asking myself this exact question. I wouldn’t know. So I’d probably eat before going just in case so I wasn’t starving the entire time or end up being “that girl” stealing all the munchies ๐Ÿ˜ 7:30 start time, to me personally, does not make me assume dinner. It’s late to me. Sorry, not trying to be negative, just honest in how I’d receive the invitation!

Why not just be clear on the invitation???

At a restaurant? I would absolutely assume there was food being served and I’d be shocked if it wasn’t a full dinner. But for an engagement party invitation, I’d probably just specify. You don’t have to get into meal choices if it’s a buffet.

I would be explicit and say buffet dinner included or something. I always assume canapés only for these type of events and line my stomach first. Your menu sounds delicious!

I am NOT the wording or etiquette police, so maybe this isn’t the fanciest way to word it? But I’d worry about being more clear and straightforward versus fancy so that everyone fully understands and comes hungry like you said!

Something like “Complete farm fresh buffet to be served. Gluten free/dairy free/vegetarian/vegan options included.”

If I’m splurging and want people to get there hungry, I would not assume everyone will see it the same as I do, because truth is, they might not.  I would state in the invite that there will be a buffet.

ETA: Agree with the poster above me on providing a small description of the buffet options.

I would assume there would be food, but since it’s an engagment party I wouldn’t know if I should expect a full meal or just h’orderves. Being vegan, I would also probably eat beforehand unless I knew for certain there would be something substantial for me to eat.
