Okay, my partner and I (both women) are holding a commitment ceremony next year and we’re working on an idea for our save the dates. She’s an illustrator, so is going to do a little drawing of us. Since we’re gay, the first question we usually get is, “….Is that legal?” And we’d just like to make a light hearted joke about the whole thing.
So my idea is to have a cute little drawing/cartoon of us and our two dogs in black and white striped convict outfits/possibly cartoon-criminal-masks with a headline of sorts across the top reading, “We’re making it legal!” (With the word legal crossed out, like in the look of a red pen or a big sharpie or something.)
If you saw that, would you get it, or would you just be confused? This is only going out to our close friends and immediate family so we’re not worried about being formal or anything like that.
Thanks for your input!

I’d get it completely. Two of my friends did something similar when they did their commitment ceremony.

Oh awesome! Do you remember their exact wording?

They did it a bit differently but it was kinda worded like this:
XXX and XXX are joining in
Please save the date for XXX time at XXX place.

I would get it, and I think it’s witty and cute! I hope you post them if you do them, I would love to see them!

If you’re sending it out to only close family and friends, like you said I’m sure people would think it makes sense to all your guests. I’d only say it’s not a good idea if you were having one of those weddings where your “dad’s ex-boss’ cousin” is invited and isn’t in on the joke 😛

LOVE this wording! I’m going to have to pass that on to some of my friends, lol.

I personally love it and would definitely get it 🙂

I would get it. I think it’s a cute idea.

Yay! Great, we’ll go with it. We’re starting on the illustrations now and I’ll post in a few days when we have a rough draft going.

That’s an awesome idea! I would definitely get it and would be shocked if your guests didn’t understand. I say go for it!

I loved it too. They also had things like “A wedding by any other name would end the same” worked into their decor and stuff playing on that same idea.

I didn’t get it. I get it now but didn’t… Pathetic.
