I say get what you want. If you would be happy with a 1.5 carat, then go for it! It seems like a terrible idea to be letting others’ opinions dictate your actions. If you would prefer smaller, than get that, but otherwise, this is totally between you and your Fiance. I have a 1 ct on a size 5.25 finger and I’m happy with it. I don’t think a bigger stone would look gaudy, nor a smaller stone look cheap. This just happens to be what was perfect for us.

You said you like the look of the large stone and your Darling Husband has made a deposit on it. So I think this is what you truly want in your heart and I’m sure your Darling Husband truly believe it would look great on you before placing the deposit. I believe it will look great on you too, there’s no need to be concerned about what other people will think or say. It is a pledge of love towards you. Just be happy about it! Concerns no more!

I wear a size 5.25 so just about what you wear and I have been trying to decided between a 1.25 and 1.5 or even a 1.  This 1.25 looks really good on you! It’s actually making me want to lean towards a 1.25. I do want a nice size stone but do not want it to be too big either

I think it looks perfect on you, but I also don’t think there’s a huge visible difference between a 1.25 and a 1.5?  I might be wrong.  I’m sure the 1.5 will look great on you and that you’ll get used to it easily.

And, since you asked, I opted for a smaller centre stone (.52) because the 1ct stones looked way too big on me and I love it (there are also tiny side stones, 0.07 on each side). 🙂

I opted for a smaller stone (.61 ct). When we started shopping, I had “1 carat” in my head, but when I tried them on, I thought they looked too big on my finger, almost fake! So then I started looking for between .5-.75 ct.

Ring size 3.75. Center diamond .61 ct.

Get what you like and what you feel looks best on your hand. Ignore carat sizes, there’s no “right” or “wrong” carat size.

I voted for both “1.5 ct will look great, rock it!” and “I opted for smaller (we could afford bigger) & I’m so glad I did [please explain]”. so I’ll explain!

just because I prefer smaller stones on MY hand doesn’t meant that’s what I think suits everyone else. it also depends a lot on finger shape/length/curvature! and of course, your daily style. I happen to think your hand is perfect for bigger rocks, so rock it baby!

I think 1.25 looks great on your finger (: But like a PP said, only you know if you would feel self-conscious about 1.5ct. Would I go smaller for myself? Yes, we went with 1.25 (I have a size 6 finger) because I didn’t want to feel self-conscious about the size based on the sizes of the rings in the area and that we’re students. Should you go smaller? Only if you think you’ll regret 1.5ct or worry about showing it to people. I think that either would look really pretty on your finger! Here’s a sizing chart that might help you out with a side by side comparason of ct sizes (: The model’s middle finger is a size 6.

Sizes: From left to right:  1.02ct1.21ct1.51ct, and 2.01ct.

You can always opt for a smaller setting. I have a 1.71 and a size 6. I got a low profile setting so it doesn’t stick up above my hand as much, doesn’t get caught on things but still is a nice size.

With the size and shape of your hand, I think the 1.25 is great.

Also, it’s not unreasonable to consider others’ reaction to the ring.  Your ring is not only a symbol of something very personal–the relationship between you and your SO–but it’s a statement to those around you and what that is statement will depend on your and your wider community’s values and traditions.  That IS something to consider when you chose a ring.  It may not be the biggest factor, but it’s something to consider.  For example, when my SO and I looked at rings we decided on .75 to 1 carat because it was the smallest size that looked good on my finger (even though since it would be an Asha, he could afford something bigger).  Coming from a religion that emphasizes simplicity and humility was part of my planning, so we didn’t want it to be remarkable for its appearance/size.

In your case, you might want to send a different message, which is perfectly okay, but what that message is SHOULD be part of your consideration, In My Humble Opinion.

I think that size looks perfect… In terms of finger coverage, my ring is a little smaller at 1.3ct, but I’m a size 4, so its about the same and I love it.  We could have spent more and got larger, but it was already quite enough, not small, not huge imo.  In my circle tho, everyone I know has about 1-1.5ct.

My ring size is also 5.5 and I have a 1.4 ct round solitaire.  It’s lovely. It is definitely big. But I don’t think it is too big, especially since it is a solitaire. I definitely have friends with much bigger rocks and with bling all over the band too

I think it looks good, but I would personally find it a bit too big as I don’t like my ring to get in the way of things and also tend to feel self-conscious if anyone ever mentions anything about how big it is. I have a size 6 and plan to wear a .75-1 carat ring. If you like wearing a bigger size more than you think you will feel self-conscious about it, then go through with it! But I would suggest playing some make-believe, imagining that you’re showing off the ring to your friends and they’re commenting on how big it is. Then see how you feel about it. Good luck!
