My Fiance and I are trying to decide on some venues to go take a look at. We are from the Kansas City area and we found a venue we love and want to look at down at the Lake of the Ozarks. This venue is three-ish hours away. What’s unique about the Lake of the Ozarks is that is basically my FI’s second home. He LOVES it down there and spent so much of his childhood down there. This venue also has the option of a “beach” ceremony and my family LOVES the beach. It seems like a win-win situation. My only concern is vendors and guests. The Lake of the Ozarks is not what you would call a big town. I’m not sure we can find many local vendors there… I’m also worried guests won’t want to drive down there to see us get married and come to party with us afterwards!
Here’s a link to their wedding gallery: It’s gorgeous. 🙂
Have any of you run into this situation? Of course, the venue is not set in stone. We have yet to see it in person, but I like to be prepared. I will be asking them if they have a list of vendors they prefer to work with. I’m hoping they will have something like that.

The place looks great! I’d def drive 3 hrs to see my family or friend get married there and of course I’d stay overnight so I could party and have fun. At least it’s only 3 hrs. I’m a St. Louis bride and I’m currently struggling with how to get my east-coast family here or get his family out to the east coast. Enjoy the Ozarks!

It looks awesome! Can you do your wedding maybe on a 3-day holiday weekend or something to make it a little easier for your guests to travel? Also, are there other, less-expensive lodging options in case some people might not be able to afford the resort?

Can you rent out a big house, or get some blocks of rooms for your guests? The place is really pretty I can’t imagine people not wanting to sneak down for a weekend of fun there.

It looks really pretty, and the fact it has memories from his childhood makes it even more special! I would happily drive 3 hours to see a friend get married! We are getting married 3 hours from where we live so most of our friends have to drive from here, around 1 1/2 hours drive from my family and a flight away from his family so I understand the concern though!
Talking to people, we have found that they really like the idea of getting away for a wedding. The important thing is whether or not there is enough accomodation for your guests for a variety of price ranges?

I would definitely drive three hours! That’s not bad at all :).
