So Fiance and i are going for kind of an “old school” feel for our wedding, we were going to do mostly jazz during cocktails and dinner (franik Sinatra, Billie Holiday, Michael buble, etc). Wegong doing our ‘grand entrance’ to sing sing sing by the Benny goodman orchestra, first dance is “just the way ylook kook tonight” by frank Sinatra.
i was thinking it might be fun to carry the music ‘theme’ through most of the reception. I was listening to a big band station last night while cooking and couldn’t stop dancing. We have a Mix of ages and I think it might be fun for everyone. But I’m not sure. Envy though I would have an awesome time at a reception like that, I don’t know if everyone shares my feelings, and above all I want my guests to have a good time.
depending on how much it might be I was even thinking of having a few dance nstructors come n and teach guests a few moves as well.
any thoughts? Obviously no matter what type of music we play through the night we won’t be able to please everyone anyways…

@futuremrste: I would enjoy myself, but we had all oldies at our wedding, so that is why I would like it. Plys Darling Husband is a music teacher ith an appreciation for jazz new and old.
I always like weddings with all jazz or classic music. I find the older crowd stays longer and really enjoys themselves AND the younger crowd still dances regardless.

We split our reception in half. First 2 hours or so were big band/jazz, and the second was popular dancing music.
I would enjoy the reception you describe, but I likely would not dance very much. That said, there is something very elegant about being in a cocktail dress and mingling with people to the sound of jazz and big band. That is the format my office christmas parties have taken for the past 4 years or so.

We’re going to have mostly oldies music at our wedding because in my crowd, that keeps that party going all night. I would have a blast at a wedding like that!

@futuremrste: I would really really enjoy it, but I wouldn’t dance because Fiance doesn’t know how to swing!
Actually, Fiance can’t even manage the side-to-side shuffle in time to the music :S
Most people I know personally would absolutely love it, but I know maybe 3-4 people who would actually dance for more than maybe one song, and thats only because my dad’s partner competes in jazz (shes so cool and dances sooo well) and my brother will bounce around to anything with a beat haha!

I would enjoy the music but I wouldn’t dance, because I hate dancing and NEVER dance.

I would definitely have the dance instructors if you decide to do this. I went to a wedding with exactly that music and although it’s great music to listen to…not one person was on the dance floor.
I was younger and went with my parents and we tried to be polite and stick around for as long as we could after dinner. About half the guests left before us and we got so bored that we just bailed about a half hour after we were done eating.

FH and I would be pumped! We love big band! I think having dance instructors is a great idea also.
