I would judge, but I wouldn’t say anything! Not my monkey, not my circus!

My mom’s colleague recently gave birth to her baby after smoking during her pregnacy and the baby had a serious heart defect. So judge like I assume I care more about her baby than she does? No. But be very sad and concerned? Yes. I admit though I did get angry at SO’s cousin who at 8 months of pregnancy tried to convince her Fiance to get rid of his (perfectly friendly) dog because “it could harm the baby” but smoked 5-6 cigarettes while we were having Christmas dinner together. She even smoked the freaking filter for god’s sake.

Personally I know a woman who found out she was pregnant, quit and lost the baby. So the next time she found out she was expecting her doctor told her not to quit. But instead tapper off as much as possible over time and get down to one or less a day. Typically I would be judgemental but I have heard that miscarraiges are not uncommon if someone quits smoking cold turkey. So it wasn’t a matter of weakness for her it was following the advice of her doctor and she has a healthy happy baby. So I try not to throw stones in glass houses.

Soon2bmrs1:  Yes, I agree with you.  So I would roll my eyes at someone who was judgemental over a half a glass of wine every couples weeks.  But I know that is not the same thing as smoking every day, multiple times a day (or all day).  But then again, there are people who think you will damage your baby by eating a turkey sub or some shrimp.

id judge – if you can’t quit for the sake of your innocent unborn baby then that is truly sad

Yes of course I’d judge, do you have to ask?

herrera2016:  Thank you for this. It can get hard not to judge sometimes, but thank you for giving a great example on why we should not judge. You really never know what someone can be going through.
