Yes, but only for the dance recital.  For everyday life, NO!

For dance, yes, it’s pretty much a necessity for performances. And it needs to be heavier than normal makeup, “stage makeup”. (I danced for 17 years.)

I think it’s totally normal to wear makeup for stage performances.  I think I wore makeup at… 7 years old for theater productions and dance recitals.  It’s pretty standard.

As someone who danced competitively my entire life as well as taught, wearing makeup and having your hair done is as important as your costume. Like it or not, that’s the way it is so YES makeup for stage is important. Like a PP pointed out, I think it actually gives you a better relationship with the idea of makeup because you are familiar with it from a young age and its not some “can’t wait to wear makeup” kind of thing. I wore makeup a lot as a kid growing up for dance and I don’t pile it on for everyday!

For competition and dress up, definitely. I think your overall messaging and modeling about how to be a responsible, strong, secure woman will have way more impact than occasionally being allowed to play with makeup for fun or use it to enhance your features under harsh stage lighting.

If she starts wanting to wear it every day, you sound like the kind of mom who would want to dig deeper and find out why, then take any action that seemed prudent in the situation given who your daughter is and what situation she’s dealing with!

    ONLY organic make up!

This is going to be expensive, OP, but you do NOT want to know what kind of proven carcinogens, neurotoxins, and heavy metals are in regular makeup. (look up some familar brands in EWG’s Skin Deep Cosmetics Database sometme…it’s a horrifying revelation.)

At six this will affect her many many more times over than it would you it would be a much, much stronger dose of poison.

I understand she wants to look a certain way to compete. It’s not “toddlers and tiaras” or anything, I get it. Just pony up and choose HEALTHY products because Covergirl or Revlon are not good enough for an adult woman to use, much less safe for a six year old girl!

Hope she rocks the competition 🙂
