I was doing some Facebook snooping, and saw quite a few people giving away their pets because they’re moving somewhere that doesn’t allow them. It made me a bit sad.
I cannot imagine not having my dog living with me. When I was in a renting position, I ended up in higher priced places just because they allowed dogs, even if the place looked the exact same as a cheaper one next door.
So, would you live somewhere that wouldn’t allow you to keep your furbaby(ies)? Or would you search around, no matter how hard and frustrating it may be, until you found a place that would allow your pet? And I don’t mean a short term, they-could-stay-with-the-grandparents not allow, but to where you’d have to find a new home for them.

@Twyla_Smith: Fiance and I moved about 6 months ago and we didn’t even consider giving up our two cats. I don’t think this guy would have let us anyway.

big no…
When I was younger I had to move back in with my parents to finish college and leave my abusive bf at the time…and I had 2 cats….I had to choose 1 (since my parents had a cat as well)…..
The other cat went to my sister’s, but did get a home…with a great woman…and last I heard she would get bathed in lavendar water and cuddle…this was a cat that was a total spazz and rarely cuddled with anyone…so she found the right person to be with….
But now, with my husband there is no way we would get rid of our pets…..they are our fur babies…

I absolutely would NOT. My oldest kitty came into my life because of a parent who was moving and could not keep him.

@ellie-b: Hehe, I have to agree. It looks like he would have tried to eat your face if you told him you were leaving him!

I just recently moved in the past month because my SO got a job. He knew I would only follow him if we had a place that would allow two dogs otherwise I would stay behind. It was a major requirement in our apartment searching.

No. Just no. Even if it was a horrible situation, I’d find a way to keep my cats. It’s what I signed up for when I got them, and they’re worth every penny or moment of stress.

Never. ever! I cant comprehend how pets end up at the pound because “the owners moved and the new apartment doesnt allow pets”. why cant they just find an apartment that does? It just doesnt make sense in my mind…

If my circumstances changed such that I could not afford a pet or provide the quality of life they deserve, I would find them a wonderful new home. No shame in that.

Nope, definitely not. We paid a $700 pet deposit to have our cats move into our new place – totally worth it.

Not a chance.
We moved from Canada to Australia and paid a LARGE amount of money to import our dog into Australia. And if anyone knows the land down under, they have some pretty strict importation rules.
We have our jobs, friends, family, hobbies….she has us.
She is our life, our heart, our world.
