(Closed) Would you punish your dog for running away?

I’ve also been told that you shouldn’t punish the dog after the fact, you have to punich them if caught in the act. Like if they pee in the house and you don’t find it until you get home from work, it’s too late to punish them because they won’t make the connection to what they did hours ago. However if you find them mid-squat, then punishing them is ok.

Dogs aren’t people. After getting out and being out for an extended amount of time, I’m sure they wouldn’t even know what you’re punishing them for anymore. What’s the point?

Now that you know she’s capable of getting out, you know to supervise her when she’s outside, and it won’t happen again.
