    Tomato Basil Soup

Salad of arugula, walnuts, dried cherries, and shallot vinaigrette?

Can it be another soup? I feel like tomato basil is associated with summer foods.

I preface this by saying that I love tomato soup (or anything with tomatoes and/or basil, really).  I would choose the salad.  Soup is messy, and I hate it when people slurp it.  Also, tomatoes and basil are both summer crops, so I think the quality of ingredients your chef might be able to source in the wintertime will suffer.

I love a soup course! Also, I love soup during chilly weather. I don’t think you can go wrong with either, and as a guest I would happily eat both.

EDIT: I make a mess with a salad with dressing just as often as I make a mess with soup. Stupid lettuce holding liquid until it’s over my lap! So, for me, the mess factor isn’t really a consideration. I’m a disaster either way.

@chrissyb464:  tomato soup is definitely an acquired taste. I personally wouldn’t eat it so I say salad. You can’t go wrong

@chrissyb464:  I think soup would be hard to eat at class event. Plus, if you have any vegetarians, you will need to specify if it is vegetarian or not.

I would agree with your Fiance, salad is a much safer option. I don’t like soup personally. But if any of your guests have issues with nuts then the soup might be safer for them.

Ask your venue if you can offer guests a choice for the same price!  It never hurts to ask!

Salad – I always like my first course to be salad. Also, I don’t like tomato soup.

the salad sounds lovely, and its nice to have something lighter with the meal so your not full of rich creamy foods plus lavish main courses as well I would def go for the salad
