Well I was offered something similar, and chose wedding, now I’m in the wedding planning wishing I had chosen the money! We could have used that for an amazing trip to Europe and could have gotten married there!

Do you have to choose one or the other? I would take it and use part of it for a small wedding and the other part to start our lives together!

Why’s it have to be either or?

I’d say Daddy, I’d pay for the whole wedding, and what’s left is to pay down the mortgage.

Keep in mind for us we already own our own home. So I’d say BOTH. In my situation though we’d pretty much just use it mostly on the wedding have maybe 10k left over for an investment.

I would put some toawards a wedding and some towards a new vehicle or down payment on a house if you don’t have one yet.

I’d take the 50K and plan a wedding with money that we came up with on our own.

i would plan a small destination wedding somewhere with just family and keep the rest!

my SIL actually had this option but it was much less – about 10k

she took the money and had the wedding of her dreams, they spent about 5k over that of their own money.

@DreamsDoComeTrue: Your wedding doesn’t have to cost all 50K. I’d split it in half probably, if you do want a large wedding. Best of both worlds. Though I personally would split it in not-so-half (as in, 10K wedding, 40K for us). Good luck. 🙂

Start my life….definitely.  I had a pretty awesome wedding/honeymoon on a low budget.  I would kill for 50k right now to help out with downpayment on a house, car for the hubs, heck, even $500 for a nice weekend away right now would be a breath of fresh air. lol

I would take the money as well…you can definitely plan a nice wedding with less than $50K and still have a good chunk left over for the future!

I got that deal… with less money. My parents gave me the same amount that they spent on my brother’s wedding, which is about half that. They said spend it on a wedding or keep it, your choice. We spent half of it, and are trying to buy a house with the rest.
