I would rather have a really nice diamond for that kind of money.

10k on a ring for SURE! If he was going to spend 10k on a trip he might as well suprisd me with a 2 week luxury all inclusive trip to Mexico where we decide to elope and have our honeymoon at the same time or something like that.

How about neither, and I get the $10K?  That would be an excellent down payment on a brand new car.  But if I had to choose from only those options, I guess the vacation?

Put it towards the ring, but if it was real life, he would have to keep saving.

Neither. For two days??? Id be pissed as hell. now if you said it was some uber amazing trip for a week or two to some exotic location,  then Id pick the trip. I love to travel. And I dont need or desire $10K ring.

Absolutely the ring! My proposal didn’t cost a thing (although we lost the ring in a lake…but found it!) and it was the most memorable event of my life.

I’ve know of a few Fairmont hotels (Banff Springs is one) to do this type of engagement package and I think they are absurd. Several years ago, I saw one at the Fairmont Copley Plaza in Boston that cost a lot more. If I remember correctly, it was around $30,000 for a larger diamond, at the bottom of a martini glass, or something like that… I can’t remember if an actual martini was involved, but can you imagine if someone swallowed the diamond?! Ha! Anyhoo, WAYYYY over-priced and pretty corny in my opinion.

babeba:  Trip, because I have my dream ring and it cost less than 3k; I just wouldn’t want a 10k ring. That said, I wouldn’t pay that kind of cash for that specific trip, there are other places I’d MUCH rather go!

I’d spend the whole budget on the ring.

I would be SO mad if my Fiance spent that kind of money on a ring OR a proposal. That is crazy!! Our wedding venue only costs a few more thousand than that proposal package!

My Fiance proposed while we were walking on the beach and it was beautiful! He didn’t need someone else to plan the proposal for him AND he didn’t need to spend thousands of dollars PLUS a ring to show me how much he loves me.

The ring for sure!

Proposals are events so they don’t have to cost much in order to be extremely special, but a ring is a physical object and it has to be purchased with money. More money -> more ring, but more money doesn’t make a “better” proposal. (I’m not saying more money makes a “better” ring but it does make a more expensive ring that will hopefully hold its value.)

If you were asking about time, say he had 10 hours to spend REALLY THINKING about the ring and proposal, I’d rather he spend 1 hour picking a ring with me and 9 hours planning the perfect proposal!

babeba:  Probably the vacation-even though it would only be for the weekend, and that’s a stupid amount of money to spend for such a short trip. I personally am not the upgrading type, and a 10k ring just wouldn’t do it for me.
