I have a wedding dress from a failed engagement that I am trying to sell. At first, I thought I would want to wear it to my future wedding. However, I realized that 1) my taste had changed over the 3 years it’s been in storage 2) my boyfriend (still waiting for that ring!) wouldn’t care for the style and 3) it reminded me of my failed relationship, and I did NOT want to think of my stupid ex on what is supposed to be the best day of my life!
My boyfriend says he wouldn’t mind me wearing it, but I just think it would be strange. However, I didn’t spend 10K like you did, and if I did you’d better believe I was getting my money’s worth out of that dress!

my best friend did. she called off one wedding about 3 months before the date, kept the dress (it was her absolute dream dress!) and then she wore it for her wedding to her now husband about 5 years later. she told me a million times that she was never marrying the first Fiance because she loved him, but because she was at the age and point in the relationship when “it seemed like the right thing to do” and she wasn’t emotionally attached to the idea of this being her dress with him…it was just her dress because she loved it.

Well you have no attachments to the dress being for the ex specifically and for that kinda money, hell yes I’d wear it again.

For that kind of money, I’d be wearing it.
Also, you seem to be pretty attached to it and come across as more bummed about not getting to wear the dress than you are about the relationship being over.. Which I think means you won’t associate it with your ex if you wear it.

LOL! no, I am not upset at all about the relationship being over. The dress I kept, the guy I cut loose!

It’s hard to say. Thankfully, I was never in this position. But I assume you bought the perfect dress to marry the man of your dreams. Just because you were wrong about the man of your dreams, doesn’t mean you were wrong about the perfect dress.

I didn’t spend much on my wedding dress from my broken engagement so I just donated it. Seemed like bad luck to have it hanging around. But if my boyfriend hadn’t seen it and I’d spent $10,000 on it and still loved it, I would probably reuse it.

I already owned my dress before I met DH. Now, not from a previous engagement but because it was an ivory cocktail dress. We joke about it but honestly, wear the dress. Who gives a fuck. It cost SO much money. And its beautiful and gorgeous and perfect. Its a dress. Plus wearing a dress from a failed engagement is SOOOO different to wearing a dress from a failed marriage. If the wedding never went ahead, it has never even been used. If it matters that much to change it a bit, buy a different coloured SASH
