I felt the same way. Budget was 3500 for dress ended up spending 1100. I think if you can find a dress you love at half your budget then obviously go for it! I ended up loving my dress just as much as the ones that were twice the price and I am so happy I got that one!!!

$1400 is a LOT of money for a dress you will only wear once for a few hours. I’d much rather put the other half of that elsewhere. Plus, I don’t think you will think of it as settling once you find the dress you like. I could have been happy in any number of dresses, but I picked the one that was the best balance between being the right price and looking the nicest.

I think that it depends.  There are alot of sites out there when you can find your dream dress or one that is similar for a really great deal.  Have you checked out preowneddresses.com or scarletscloset.com for your dress?  Or called around to find out how much buying the sample would be, alot of the time you can get a great discount on the sample.

Yes, I would, but the dress isn’t one of my priorities.

I wouldn’t settle for a dress that you don’t feel absoluately beautiful in. However, if it came down to two dresses that you LOVE but one you loved a smidge more was double the price of the other dress i would do the cheaper of the two dresses to free up the budget in other areas. Post some pics of the dresses please!!!

I would go out and keep looking. You never know, there are SO many beautiful dresses out there you could find a dress for much less that you love even more. If you keep coming back to the $1400 dress and nothing feels “right” then get the dress and figure out the rest along the way.

i wouldnt… “settle” buuuuut I would keep looking, if you found one half the price as I did and like it just as much then its a deal! My dream dress was 1500, which i wasnt going to spend anymore than that. I found one I love for 700, without alterations. I never actually tried on my dream dress, it was my next appointment!

I would settle.  It depends.  In a way, I did settle, even with my Amsale.  You know?  My dream dress was $13K and used $3K, which was still too much.  I would settle on one I still loved.

I would stalk it elsewhere so I could get it cheaper! Sample sales, trunk shows, pre-owned, etc—there are many ways to get your dream dress for less.

I say if you find a dress for $700 that you love as much as the $1400 dress then go for it.  But if not then don’t settle.  Years from now you won’t have a picture of your wedding decor hanging on the wall.  You will have a picture of you and your husband and you will be wearing your wedding dress.  When you look at the photo you don’t want to think to yourself ‘I should have gotten my dream dress’.

Now, of course that’s within reason.  Thedifference between $700 and $1400 isn’t that much.  If the difference were between $5000 and $1400 that might be a different story.

Good luck on your search for the perfect dress!!

P.S. My dress budget was $3000.  My dream dress retailed for $4500.  I bought my dream dress at a trunk show for $3600 plus tax and alterations (total wad $4200).  Even though I went over budget by $1200 there hasn’t been one moment that I’ve regretted spending that extra money.  Every time I look at our wedding photos I’m reminded why I choose that dress — because it was my dream dress and it is amazing.

My wedding dress was the one thing I wasn’t willing to settle on. I almost did, twice, but, both times, couldn’t do it. I will settle on everything else, just to have my dress.

After having looked, I know there are some awesome dresses in the $800 range (about double my budget) so in this case I’d look for a dress that was less than $1400.

God I’m hoping I can! My dream is to find something amazing recycled from someone online so I can focus more of the budget toward photography and decorations.
