@mousepeach:  I would still tip her.

We will not be tipping our photograpers, they own their own business and are getting close to 8000 for the wedding. We just wrote a deposit check, direct to them.

If they worked for a photography studio, however, we would be sure to tip, because I would feel like a portion of their earnings would be going to the actual owner.

As a general rule I do not tip business owners.

@mousepeach:  I didn’t tip any vendors that owned their own business like that.  Just employees.

@mousepeach:   She is working alone?  As in completely alone?  No second?

If so, will she have two camera bodies on hand?  Just wondering…..

@mousepeach:   The camera body is the main unit of the camera – the lens attaches to it.  Digital camera bodies, and the flash cards in them,  do on occasion fail, which is why wedding photographers have a second.

I tipped and I got some free prints and extra pages added to my album.  Win!

My photog owned her own business and I did not tip her, per se.

However, after our e-shoot we sent her a card and necklace. It was a Destination Wedding and we flew her out to our location. We gave her a welcome bag we gave our other guests. At the wedding we gave her a nice ($60ish) bottle of wine.

Yes, I tip ALL service providers if they do an excellent job! It’s rude not to.

@mousepeach:   I have never yet been to a wedding without two photographers, no matter the size of the wedding.  Wedding photographers have a second because they get different views at the event, different angles, and are able to cover both the bride and groom for the getting ready shots.

By “second” I meant second photographer.   If no second photographer, then I wondered if she carried extra gear – I assume so.

For what you describe as a “quite small” wedding it sounds as if you will be just fine!!
