Hey Bees! I just got back from meeting my D.O.C. and am so flipping excited about it! I’m a very determined do-it-yourself bride and have a lot of personal touches that I really want to make sure go off and I don’t want to worry about having to coordinate it all the day of my wedding. I want to spend my morning sipping cocktails with my sister while lounging around the hotel room, not rushing to the venue to set up the tables! The guy I’m using is really generous in that he’ll be in contact for any advice and discounts that come happen between now and the wedding. This might be the best money spent for the whole thing!
Are you using a day-of coordinator? How do you feel about letting go of the reins?

I am totally DIY; however, like you, I want to be able to relax and enjoy the day without having to worry about everything. Hiring a wedding planner was one of the first things that I did. She suggested that I should only get her DOC package, but I wanted more access to her; just in case, so I sugned up for her full service package. She is awesome and someone I can bounce ideas off of without fear of driving her crazy. I am very type A and have to have everthing just so, so I won’t know how I will be with “letting go of the reins” on the day, but she is awesome, and knows my personality, so I am sure we will be more than fine on the day of.

I’m DIY and a DOC is a must! I do not want to ask my family and friends to set up and tear down and I don’t want to worry about anything the morning of our wedding.

@littlenikki: I’m also DIYing a lot… and completely agree with you and PPs that I want to enjoy the day!! Not worry about everything. It’ll be hard letting go of my control freakishness, but totally worth it.
How did you gals find your DOC? I have no clue where to start!

For sure using a DOC. I had originally planned on us setting it up ourselves, but after helping set up for a few weddings this year I just want to relax and enjoy the day. We have an aquantence that is a wedding coordinator and she is is giving us a great deal. I talked to her a few times and I am now totally convinced that setting everything up and taking it down is well worth a few hundred dollars to allow me to sit back, relax, and enjoy being a bride.

I am VERY fortunate to have a good friend who is in school for event planning…. I asked her *very nicely* if she would like to act as my DOC. She will basically be in charge of setting up the reception hall and ceremony space (she will have TONS of helpers, though) and she will act as the “go to” person for questions about issues like weather.
It works out great for me b/c I don’t have the money to pay for a DOC (her services are her wedding gift to us) and it works out great for her b/c she gets some real life experience, as well as a reference and pretty pictures for her portfolio.
And so far she has been wonderful! We went to dinner one night and just discussed ideas, and she had lots of wonderful ideas for decorating our space (she used to be VP for a club that held their dances there, so she’s familiar with the space and ways to decorate it).
So, all in all, I’m a happy lady with a very wonderful, sweet DOC 🙂
