We have those sam type of chairs.  I bought white polyester chair covers and navy sashes to go ove them.  Some I bought second hand from facebook sale sites, some I bought new on efavormart.

Personally I would not use them like that.  I too would invest in chair covers and sashes/bows.

My venue’s chairs are very similar. I’m using them. They do not scream “hi i’m a conference chair” as loudly as some chairs I’ve seen.  Something I’ve noticed looking at photos is that fancy and regular chairs don’t look that much different when people are sitting in them for dinner, nor is there a big difference visible when the lights are dimmed for dancing.  Ultimately I couldn’t stomach spending $8 per head for something guests don’t care about and which will feature in maybe 2 photographs.

of course, decor is near the bottom for me with priorities (e.g., am using candles, no flowers.) If decor is a higher priority – fancy chairs might be worth it.  These seem decently neutral.

Depends on what the rest of your decor looks like. If the chairs work with your colors or however you’re decorating then save your money. If it comes down to paying for nicer chairs or getting covers for these I’d go with the nicer chairs. Not a fan of chair covers. Personally, as a guest I don’t care about how the chairs look and its not something I really notice or remember.

I’d use those before I’d rent chair covers (which I personally think look ugly and dated and are uncomfortable to sit on). If you can put it in your budget to rent new chairs then do that but otherwise I’d just use these.

It would depend on the rest of the decor, and if they matched. Chair covers are a good option otherwise.

I would use them in a heartbeat. They are a totally neutral chair and will blend better with any decor than a sea of white chair covers.

The wedding industry has somehow managed to convince many brides (most of whom have never hosted anything on this scale in their life) that chairs that are used for the most formal of banquets need a cover and a bow to be used for a wedding.

hikingbride :  100%. I personally can’t stand chair covers, so I would use these if it wasn’t in my budget to rent something different. Maybe JUST a sash that goes with the theme/colors, like below.

I’d use them as they are – they are nice & neutral and once people are sitting on them no one will care!

Those aren’t bad, I would use them because rental chairs can run upwards of 8 bucks a piece.  And frankly, if someone at your wedding cares that much about the chairs, it’s probably someone you don’t wanna be friends with anyway.

I’m using bland brown chairs provided by my venue. They match the dark wood of my venue and I’m going to incorporate brown more into the color scheme. Our caterer priced out a set of chairs and it just seems crazy to me to spend that kind of money on chairs. My Fiance and I thought about it and we don’t remember a single thing about chairs from a single wedding we attended.

jellybean86 :  They look perfectly fine. People set their asses on them. If they were gray metal folding chairs, I’d think about renting something else but these are nicely padded neutral colored chairs. If you have spare money that you don’t know what to do with, I guarantee your guests will much prefer you put it towards food and beverage rather than prettier ass-rests.
