Lately I’ve been thinking about PL’s passing, and how she was taken from us too soon, which got me thinking about eternity. To me, living forever doesn’t make sense, but I just wish people didn’t die young. I would love if everyone could live to be 100 in good health. That way you can live your life, watch your children and grandchildren grow up, and then drift off into a peaceful rest. Would you want to live forever?

No, because I would never get the chance to reconnect with family members that have passed in heaven.

I wouldn’t want to live forever, but I agree that there’s a time that death makes more sense, and it’s not when we’re young and think we still have our whole lives ahead of us. Old age doesn’t make dealing with a death easier, but it doesn’t make us wonder why something like that had to happen.

Not on this earth, but in heaven yes I’d want to live forever

Probably not, but maybe if I could look young and hot the whole time. Like, I don’t want to be geriatric forever, you know?
Living forever sounds exhausting and depressing.

Heck no- society is going to Hell in a handbasket, I don’t really want to be around to see it!
Honestly, in the past year I’ve lost a cousin and another dear friend both in freak accidents. As absolutely devastated and crushed as I was, I was thankful that they were in my life at all. I was so greatful that these amazing people touched my life, and I was also very thankful that niether of them would face aging. Cancer, old age, a deteriorating body and mind… these are things that they will never know. They will always be remembered as vibrant, healthy, active, and always smiling 24 year olds.
Now, I’m not saying I want to die young, but I definitely don’t want my loved ones to care for me long after I’ve mentally checked out either, know what I mean?

If I could look like a Cullen, hell yea! But really, no, I don’t think I’d want to live forever. I guess it would be cool to get to experience so many new and exciting things that we won’t see in our lifetimes but I wouldn’t want to spend the rest of eternity on earth. Eventually everythings going to go to shit (even more than it has already) and I don’t think I want to be around to experience it. Also, assuming not everyone would live forever, I wouldn’t want to outlive those that I love. I don’t even like thinking about life after my mom dies. I couldn’t imagine what it would be like to lose Darling Husband or my children and then to have to carry on living forever.
I agree with you OP, in a perfect world everyone would live until they’re old and grey and then drift off peacefully. Unfortunatelty, it’s far from a perfect world and noone gets to choose their fate.

I wouldn’t mind living a couple hundred years, just to hang around and see what happens to all my descendants, and assuming that I get to stay hale and healthy during that time period.
But I don’t think true immortality sounds all that great. I mean, can you imagine surviving the heat death of the universe? Then what, you know? Besides being lonely as hell, the physical reality of trying to exist within nothingness would seriously suck.

@DaneLady: So sorry to hear about your cousin and friend. What a great attitude you have towards their death and memory of their lives!

Hell no! Considering how young people start to deteriorate. I work at a cancer hospital, and being old sucks. Imagine having to get older and older…
