Absolutely. WHy not? A used dress has been worn for waaaay less time than a sample, and people seem to not have a problem buying samples. A gown has been worn for like 8 hours if it’s used – that’s nothing. I don’t really understand the stigma of “used” dresses.

The only reason I wouldn’t would be if I couldn’t try it on first. If you try one on and love it and can find it online–definitely go for it. Just be careful on the sizing if the bride before you altered it a ton!

For some reason I always wanted a new dress myself, but I think it’s a great way to save money and definitely nothing wrong with it.

Absolutely yes. #1 reason for me is money, #2 is that I buy a lot of used stuff anyhow, so it coincides with my views on that 🙂 Perfect!

However, my boy strongly believes in superstitions, energies, etc. (He’s not spiritual or religious per se, it’s just an odd characteristic). He is kinda having issues with it. He really wants me to have a new one. Grr! Right now, the plan is for me to wear one a good friend of mine (that I met thru WB!) is wearing next week. It might help him that someone “random” didn’t wear it.

I think thats my plan. I want to go to bridal stores and try on dresses. Once I find the one I like I’m going to look for it used. Saves so much money. And hopefully the previous bride already got a bustle done which will save more money in alterations!

Absolutely! I tracked down a used Pnina Tornai for months but it wasn’t meant to be.

I absolutely wore a used dress. As in I purchased it off someone, who wore it in her own wedding, from Craigslist. It fit me like a glove and needed no alterations. Aaaand it cost $100…hundreds, if not thousands, less than what some women may pay. This sounds dumb but an “expensive” wedding dress wasn’t high on my list.

Definitely. I just caution you to do thorough research buying — get pictures of EVERYTHING. I almost bought a dress that was described as “excellent, like new” condition only to then notice smudges on the train. When I asked for closer pictures, the seller admitted that it had scuffs from being stepped on, but she was certain they’d come out when the dress was cleaned! I wasn’t willing to take that risk, but you have to be very diligent. That was fairly innocuous, but there are a lot of scammers out there trying very hard to sell you a bogus dress.

But as for the practice itself, I think it’s a great idea. It saves money (wedding dresses are ridiculously marked up anyway) and it recycles. Win all around.

@go cubbies: That would be THIS week–not next week! ;)haha!

I got my dress at a store close-out so I was really lucky in my shopping experience, I got a really expensive dress at 60% off.

If I hadn’t gotten my dress so inexpensively I would have 100% thought about it!!!

As long as the dress was in decent condition, I would!  I would just make sure that the price of the dress used isn’t going to add up to the price of the new dress after you get it cleaned and altered (if it wasn’t cleaned or needs to be altered a lot).  But other than that I think it is a great way to save money and still get your dress!
