@This Time Round:  The only problem with your information is that it is country specific and not city specific. Mexico in general has a somewhat higher rate of crime, due to the statistics from certain areas which skew the statistics for the whole country. However Cancun, and most resort areas, do not have high crime rates (at least not higher than most American cities). An excerpt from the same US State department website: Cancun, Cozumel, Playa del Carmen, Riviera Maya and Tulum are major cities/travel destinations in Quintana Roo –  No advisory is in effect.

While going to many popular tourist spots like Cancun, one realizes that it takes an awful lot to stand out in terms of jewelry. There are women wearing HUGE rings there, and unless your ring is celebrity sized, it likely won’t draw any attention at all.

If you are concerned about losing it in the water if it is loose, on the other hand, then I’d leave it at home.

But ultimately my experiences with Mexico and other vacation hotspots has been that there is a lot of bling on a lot of people. It truly takes something super-sized to compete or to draw attention, especially within the resort. But even outside of the resorts I have never felt uncomfortable wearing mine.

We wore ours in Mexico & left them in the safe. We got married there so my e-ring was worn the entire time but his ring  & my band were in our safe in the room half the time. No issues whatsoever! We stayed on Isla Mujeres, off the coast of Cancun and one night in a mega-resort in Cancun after our flight was cancelled. We didn’t have insanely expensive or crazy blingy rings though I did see plenty around…

@hotpinkbride:  I wouldn’t because I know I would be going in the water. I also wouldn’t wear them because I don’t trust the in room safe. My Fiance works in claims and is always hearing horror stories about the workers breaking into the safe

@hotpinkbride:  I am sorry!!!!!!!!!!!!! I never used to be that paranoid, but once he started telling me all this, I was like I am NEVER taking my valuables on vacation. Unless you are going somewhere  like Italy where you won’t be doing water activities, I wouldn’t take it.

If you make a claim, and have proof of purchse, you can get your money back, but it will never replace the sentimental value and thats not a risk I am willing to take when I go on a Caribean vacation!

I don’t bring mine on vacation, period. After seeing a girl in our tour group forget her ring in the hotel safe (after we had left the hotel) and pretty much ruining her vacation worrying about it, I’d rather leave mine at home. I have a fun stand-in from Berricle that I wear.

@hotpinkbride:  First of all, yay for going to Cancun!! That is one of those places I drool over but have yet to go haha. Let me know how it is! 😛

As for the ring…uhmmmm…could you just maybe wear your wedding band? I feel like I couldn’t part with my ring, but that’s mostly because then I’d have no ring at all! But once we’re married, I wouldn’t mind wearing just the wedding band, you know?

Ultimately, I say don’t do it!! Especially if you’re worried about it – because you will be even more worried once you get there. Leaving it in the room, you run the risk of it being stolen. Wearing it in the water, you run the risk of slipping off….:/
