Darling Husband and I were just talking about this. We have a beloved terrier that I’ve had since I was a preteen (!) who is old but doesn’t seem old at all. It got me to thinking, do you think you would ever feel like your household was complete without a pet? Is there a specific kind of pet (like a cat or dog) you think your house needs and why?
In my case, as a kid I had always thought I was a cat person, but my dog became my “best buddy”, and I don’t think I could have a household without a dog!

We will always have big dogs. Little dogs drive me crazy and we can’t have cats. When I graduated high school and moved out I decided that I wouldn’t have any pets ever again. I started dating my husband and now we have three dogs. I can’t imagine there ever being a time when we don’t have a pet in our life. Love them more than I ever thought I would.

I’ve always had some sort of pet, even if it was just a fish.
When I met my husband I had my guinea pig, and he insisted we not get a dog until Cooper died. Little guy hung on for a long time and we were both SO SAD when he died that then my husband didn’t want to get that attached to anything else.
So we started to raise a service dog, who ended up career changed to be a pet, and we couldn’t let her go. 🙂

@AnonymousCupcake: My parents and I got our cat when I was 18, and I love him to pieces but my now-home (the one I share with FH) is perfectly complete with just us two.

@Birdee106: haha see I hate little yappy dogs, but my Westie is the perfect combination of a medium “chunky” size dog that thinks she’s big!

I don’t think I could have a home without animals. The few months I lived in a pet free apartment complex drove me nuts. My family has had dogs for as long as I can remember so it was very hard for me to not have something furry around.

My home doesn’t feel quite complete without at least one dog in it!

I’ve never had a pet (aside from my fish of 1.5 months). So…yes.

@AnonymousCupcake: We will always have a dog. It’s so quiet and sad in the house when the dog isn’t around for a few days. I’m a big believer that human lives are greatly improved by pets

@MsJ2theZ: same! I think the best feeling in the world is when you come home, and your dog is so happy to see you.

I spent most of my childhood in a household without pets. No particular reason other than my parents love going away and sorting out somewhere for the animal can be a big hassel, I think it also hit mum hard when our cat from eons ago died.
I hated it XD but my household always felt like a cosy home without the presence of animals, and there are genuinely things that I’m glad for when I go home after being somewhere with pets (e.g. my BF’s house has 4 cats, they’re… okay… but everything is so damn fluffy because of them, ugh it feels icky sometimes XD).
I’d definitely like animal when I get my own place (probably rabbits or a hamster to start with), but I think a house can be home without them 🙂

@MaidMarian: oh gosh the pet hair is the worst! I definitely agree, even though I love my dog.
