yes! more time to spend with my guests would be awesome

no! it ruins the moment you "debut" as a married couple

We attended about half of our cocktail hour and I was adamant on it at the time but I may not have done it if I had to do it all over again.  It was good to see people and get some group pictures out of the way. However, it was a long day, I was hungry and I kind of wish I had taken more than 5 minutes to just sit in the bridal room with my husband and eat some food and enjoy.  Instead I was getting annoyed with my mom’s family as they tried to organize a big group picture while poaching cheese cubes off of my best friend’s fiance’s plate.  Was not my most glamorous moment of the day. My husband was really happy we did it though, we got a lot of the chit chat out of the way for later on.

My timeline looks a lot like yours. A big gap for pictures, but we totally want to attend cocktail hour! I don’t think it detracts anything from being married. I like the fact that then we would get to spend more time with our friends and family, and enjoy more time dressed up looking pretty.

We did not attend our cocktail hour but WISH we did.  …then again, I love small talk 🙂  But, keep in mind, it’s all fun small talk – so great to see you! you look beautiful, blah blah blah!

Cocktail hour is what you do for your guests between the ceremony and the reception so that you can do photos, your guests can mingle, get a drink, and find their tables.  We did not attend our cocktail hour, since it was technically for the guests and not for us.  When we arrived the reception started (as we were ‘receiving’ our guests and throwing a party to thank them for attending our ceremony).  We had our entrance, our dance, and shortly after our arrival the meal was served.

I would like to because there’s gonna be some awesome food but I have a feeling our pictures will take up that hour :

I think that having the extra time to talk to your guests makes everything way easier since then, you don’t have to squeeze all the greetings and small talk into the reception, leaving you more time to talk to everyone you want to and to dance and spend time with your new husband

I reallly want to attend our cocktail hour, but since we are not doing first looks, the majority of the time will probably be taken up by the photographer. Boohiss

our ceremony and reception are at the same place and i hate huge gaps between the two anyway so we are only having an hour in between, which will be the “cocktail hour.” between signing our marriage license, bustling my dress, and taking pictures, there just won’t be time to attend it. we are doing a receiving line after the ceremony anyway so i’m not worried about not being able to talk to all the guests.

@AmyFarrahFowler:  Agreed! That’s why we’re doing a first look as well.  Cocktail hour has always been my favorite part of any wedding, no way I’m missing it!

@IzzyBear:  Our caterer put together a little plate of all the appetizers served at our cocktail hour and had them waiting at our sweetheart table when we got there, maybe they could do that so you still get some of the food!

We DID NOT attend the cocktail hour. We used that time to take some pictures outside before the sunset. It was just the two of us and the photographer. We also spent a few minutes alone to high five ourselves on our new marriage.
