Soooo.. where to begin with this. I have been renting a mobile home for 6 years come August 18th. Keep in mind the rent has never ever been late, never bounced, no issues. I keep to myself, not 1 loud party, usually in bed by 11pm. Don’t call her for problems unless it’s something bad, or just got to the point I can’t deal with it anymore.
My landlady has always been hard to deal with from the beginning, and trust me for the whole 6 years I have been here I have been looking for a new place off and on. When my ex moved out I almost had to stay simply because I could afford it on my income, I was allowed to have my dog, I lived 1 mile from my job so if my old POS car had broken down it wouldn’t be a huge issue for me to find a ride. So I stayed here, and dealt with her crap.
I met my now husband, he moved in with me since his living situation was worse, we got married and then really started our search. We finally found something and last night I broke the news to her I was leaving.
She freaked out!
She started yelling at me that I was the only renter that complained so much. (Really? I only called when the ceiling leaked, and when we had NO water because something was going on with the well, when the furnace broke usually once a season, and when the hot water heater died.) She started going off about how so and so who used to live here put in a sidewalk and so and so paved the driveway and so and so would fix the furnace himself. Well, it’s nice they did that stuff but really that is NOT my responsibility.
Then she started yelling about how she wanted to kick us out 6 months ago because the outside of the mobile home looked like crap. Yeah, and that isn’t my fault. The side of the place is stained black from the tar that washed off the roof because she had someone fix it – half assed. All her repairs were done by someone she asked to fix it, only the hot water heater was installed by a professional. She also had told us BOTH times in the last 6 months when we had go on vacation that she was going to have the place pressure washed. Neither time did she follow through with that. That didn’t surprise me because that is typical of her. I am still waiting for someone to come and pre-winter service the furance from 4 years ago.
She then screamed that she was happy I was moving out and hung up the phone. Really? How old are we???
The funny part of this whole story — yesterday before I called her I had gotten the mail and there was a letter in there from her. She was raising the rent $50 a month and signed it “I sincerly hope you continue to reside at this residence.” But yet, wanted to kick us out?
Some people’s kids!
I just hope I’ve heard the last of her. But something tells me I haven’t.. People move, she needs to realize that. This place we live in is NOT suitable for a baby. It’s barley suitable for 2 adults. I will not have a baby in an enviroment where if the furnace breaks and her friend can’t come fix it for 2 days we sit and freeze. Or that the water is not reliable.
All I could say after she hung up on me was, “Wow”.
