I am totally flabergasted! One of my lab assistants stopped by and informed me she had just gotten married. I was totally shocked! I love her dearly and she lives with her SO and their 3 little girls. So she and her SO have been together for quite some time. She decided that they finally should get married. So about 2 weeks ago they decided to do a courthouse wedding. But it so happened her parents were also visiting from out of state. To please her parents, they found a neighborhood church that would marry them. She wantd to just wear a nice long dress but her SIL took her to a bridal salon and she found this dress that fitted her perfectly on sale for 100! Since she got a gown, her SO went and rented a tux. She put their little girls in cute dresses and made them BMs and the youngest the ring-bearer, flowers were obtained on the way to the church from a local grocery store and TA DA! Almost instant wedding. I saw the pics and it was lovely and you would never known that the wedding was literally just tossed together. Boy don;t I feel silly spending months and months planning my simple wedding”! But I am happy for the newlyweds!

That is awesome! I love simple weddings.
My own mother and stepfather planned theirs in just under two weeks, after 25+ years together. My husband and I joke we inspired them (they had been to our wedding just prior to them announcing their own engagement).
My husband and I had to attend it by Skype, sitting in Starbucks, though as it was on a Tuesday night in their own living room where they live a couple provinces away and we did not have internet hooked up at the time! But they planned it so they could do it when my brother was in town with them at least and had my other siblings and partners there (along with the grandcats and granddog). They had a beautiful simple ceremony where they did a sand ceremony using sand from the many places they have traveled and had a JOP they knew come in and do the ceremony. Everyone drank wine as they witnessed it (except my husband and me, we had Starbucks!). My mom made supper and homemade pie (rather than a cake) for afterward. Flowers were from Costco! Aside from my own, I still consider it the best wedding I have ever “attended”. It was beautiful and so heartfelt. Like you, most people had no idea they were married until after the fact (and a few did not even know they were not already married.
I can totally see how people do it though. Our engagement period was 2 1/2 months, but we had everything planned within two weeks. We were fortunate our venue was available sooner rather than later. It is usually when you need specific venues on specific dates or have a lot of details or a lot of people to put together that you need a lot of lead time. If you just want the basics and do not need a whole lot of “other people” to come together, the planning can be done quickly!
Congrats to your friend and her family, may they have a happy & healthy life together!
