My mom works with a young woman who is getting married October 16, 2010. Her reception venue just called and CANCELLED the wedding. She has one and half weeks to find a new reception venue! I cannot believe it. I would be an absolute mess! I guess the venue was having renovations done and they wont be done on time for the wedding. I cannot believe that this venue did this, how absolutely horrible!

OMG! I would call the local news and get them to pick up the story–maybe some local businesses will see it and will feel moved to help out?

That’s soooooo not cool. I can’t believe her venue didn’t at least offer to help her to either find a new venue or least give her a list of some options in the area. I would totally be in tears.

@MapleMoose:I don’t believe she did. I know they don’t have a ton of money to spend on the wedding in the first place, so I don’t think she had the insurance.

@pb and j: I actually just saw something on the news last night about wedding insurance, and I’m thinking its not such a bad idea. (This is my post about it: http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/wedding-insurance-7). It doesn’t seem to be too expensive either.

I am not advertising but I used to work for a company that offered wedding coverage in Canada: http://www.palcanada.com/content/view/10/52/lang,en/
I’m sure the contractor who is doing the work for the venue is getting an ear full from the venue itself.
@HoyaLawya2010: Great idea!

Oh my that poor girl!!! They should have known that they would not be done!! I agree 100% with HoyaLawya2010 because whenever something like that is on the local news usually a business steps up and helps out.

Could she sue? Im mean telling her a week and half before the wedding?? thats REALLY unprofessional, if it was a renovation issue could they not tell a month even TWO months ago that they werent going to be able to meet the deadlines!!!

Call the news. Someone will offer their venue for her!!
Where is she located? Perhaps we can do some research to find other places for her to help out? Or maybe there are some bees from that area who know some good places!?!
