We have a very strict guest limit, and the word has been passed around to our guests about this. Still on our RSVP cards there is a place for guests to write in the number of guests. Is it wrong for me to go ahead and write in the number beforehand? I just don’t want anyone to go crazy and write in tons of people then leading to the akward conversation about not being able to bring someone. Or should I leave it blank and just hold my breath and hope for the best?

I wrote “We have reserved _____ seats in your honor” and I filled in the number. So far, no issues!

Is it too late to reorder the type of RSVP card which states ” X seat(s) have been reserved in your honor” or something along those lines?
As much as it boggles the mind, there are still people who take the liberty of adding guests.

I like that wording! Thanks!
What about if a guest actually needs fewer seats than have been saved for them? Do you leave a way for them to note this? (One of our good friends has gone stag to every wedding and social function for as long as I have known him, but my Fiance insists on giving him a +1 on the very off chance).

How are your invitations worded? Ours actually named the people invited on the invitation. There was no ambiguity and no one tried to bring an extra guest. (But then, we also invited every partner we knew about).
My understanding is the “X attending” line is for the guest to fill out. Otherwise how do they let you know that (e.g.) only 2 of a family of 4 can attend? That’s why, as PPs have said, some cards have two lines. One for you to fill out (“X seats reserved in your honor”), and one for them to fill out in reponse.

You can always write “____of X(number of people on the invite)” in the line next to guests attending? Our RSVP cards have “___ of ___ Will Attend” and “___ of ___ Will Not Attend” and I will be filling in the number on each card. A bit time consuming, but hey if it avoids uninvited people, it’s worth it.

I think you just answered my question as I was typing it out! Thanks!

You can use the wording :
Accept :__ of 2 will be attending
Decline: __ of 2 will be not be attending.

I also did the ___ of ___ will be attending. I think it’ll work well. *fingers crossed* Invites went in the mail on Monday and Tuesday!
